Summary

The Storage and Receiving Manager is responsible for leading fruit handling operations from intake through storage, ensuring optimal quality and condition of apples and cherries. This role focuses on managing receiving and cold storage operations for all receiving and storage locations while coordinating with Warehouse Operations Director to make key storage decisions based on field quality data and incoming fruit condition to maximize pack-out, maintain quality, and support overall operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Manage daily fruit receiving operations; evaluate incoming loads using field QC reports and in-house inspections to make acceptance, segregation, and handling decisions; ensure accurate grading, documentation, and traceability
Direct cold storage and controlled atmosphere (CA) operations; determine storage placement, conditions, and duration based on fruit maturity and quality data
Interpret field QC reports (maturity, Brix, firmness, defects) to guide receiving priorities, storage plans, and inventory flow from intake to packing
Monitor stored fruit condition and provide ongoing recommendations for rotation, packing order, and storage adjustments to maintain quality and minimize shrink
Maintain adherence to food safety and quality standards (HACCP, GAP, GMP); document recommendations and actions, and assist in resolving quality issues or customer concerns
Supervise hauling and logistics coordinator and lead receiving and storage staff; provide training and direction; and coordinate with warehouse operations team, field staff, and growers to align fruit delivery timing, storage plans, and operational priorities.

Skills and Requirements

Minimum 3+ years of tree fruit production, storage, receiving, or quality control; leadership or supervisory experience required.
Strong knowledge of apple and cherry quality standards, sizing, grading, storage protocols, packout expectations, and market specifications.
Demonstrated experience in inventory control, forecasting, budgeting, cost management, shipping coordination, and controlled atmosphere storage regimes.
Advanced proficiency with ERP/warehouse management systems, production reporting platforms, inventory systems, and Microsoft Excel; strong analytical skills with the ability to generate performance reports.
Working knowledge of PSM, RMP, and IIAR standards, including regulatory compliance, documentation, and safe operation of refrigeration and process systems.
Proven leadership ability in team building, workforce planning, employee accountability, and driving operational efficiencies through KPI development and performance management.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Physical Requirements

Ability to hear and speak effectively, including responding to equipment alarms and participating in face-to-face and telecommunication conversations.
Visual acuity for detailed work and depth perception to ensure safety and accuracy.
Full manual dexterity including reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, and use of hand tools and computer keyboards.
Full body mobility including climbing, stretching, kneeling, bending, and reaching.
Ability to move throughout a warehouse environment, including climbing stairs.
Ability to lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds.
