Blue Sky Animal Hospital is seeking a full-time Associate Veterinarian to join our established, collaborative medical team.
During scheduled clinical shifts, you will work alongside one or two other veterinarians throughout the workday. This is a multi-doctor environment—not a position in which an associate is routinely expected to manage the hospital and its caseload alone.
You will join an established practice with an existing client base, experienced support staff, strong operational leadership, and a broad range of medical services. Doctors are not required to attend marketing events, make promotional appearances, or conduct other external marketing efforts. Your role is focused on practicing medicine, caring for patients, communicating with clients, and working effectively with your hospital team.

Blue Sky provides a varied small-animal caseload that allows doctors to practice comprehensive medicine without being limited to routine wellness appointments.
Our services include:
- Preventive and wellness care.

Position Overview
The Associate Veterinarian will provide compassionate, high-quality medical care to canine and feline patients while working collaboratively with our other doctors, technicians, veterinary assistants, client-service team, and hospital leadership.
This position may be structured around a combination of:
- Preventive and wellness appointments.
- Sick-patient and urgent-care visits.
- Diagnostic workups.
- Chronic-disease management.
- Dentistry.
- Medical case management.
- Surgical procedures, when included in the veterinarian’s role.
Surgical experience is not required. We are open to hiring a veterinarian whose position is primarily focused on appointments, diagnostics, dentistry, and medical case management.
For veterinarians who perform surgery, some surgical procedures may be incorporated into the schedule based on the doctor’s experience, professional comfort, and the needs of the hospital.
We welcome both experienced veterinarians and motivated newer graduates seeking a collaborative environment with access to experienced doctors and hands-on mentorship.
Compensation
Expected annual compensation ranges from $125,000 to $200,000.
The position uses a ProSal compensation model, with a production percentage ranging from 20% to 22%, depending on experience.
Actual compensation will depend on:
- The veterinarian’s agreed-upon schedule and hours worked.
- Individual production.
- Professional experience.
- The scope of clinical responsibilities included in the position.
- The agreed-upon ProSal percentage.
The upper portion of the advertised compensation range generally reflects a doctor working closer to 40 hours per week, achieving stronger production, and performing some surgical procedures as part of the position.
Surgery is not required to be considered for or hired into this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine, diagnose, and treat canine and feline patients.
- Provide preventive care, wellness services, sick-patient care, and appropriate urgent-care treatment.
- Develop reasonable diagnostic and treatment plans based on each patient’s medical needs and the client’s goals.
- Order, perform, and interpret appropriate laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging, and other clinical procedures.
- Perform dental procedures and surgical procedures consistent with the doctor’s assigned responsibilities, training, and professional comfort.
- Prescribe and administer medications in accordance with applicable professional and legal requirements.
- Explain diagnoses, treatment options, anticipated outcomes, and estimated costs clearly and compassionately.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and timely medical records, charges, prescriptions, and treatment documentation in EzyVet.
- Collaborate with other veterinarians on cases and seek or provide professional consultation when appropriate.
- Work effectively with veterinary technicians and assistants, including appropriate delegation and utilization of support staff.
- Follow hospital protocols involving patient safety, pharmacy operations, controlled substances, medical documentation, and quality of care.
- Recognize when specialty consultation or referral is appropriate and assist clients in coordinating continued care.
- Participate in case discussions, medical meetings, and the continued improvement of hospital procedures.
- Contribute to a professional culture based on accountability, teamwork, respectful communication, and excellent patient care.
Schedule and Practice Hours
This is a full-time position structured for approximately 32–40 hours per week.
Blue Sky’s regular hospital hours are:
- Monday–Friday: 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
- Sunday: Closed.
The position includes rotating Saturday mornings. After-hours emergencies are directed to the Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota rather than being managed through a routine overnight hospital schedule.
Specific scheduling arrangements will be discussed based on hospital needs and the selected veterinarian’s anticipated number of weekly hours.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent veterinary degree.
- Current Minnesota veterinary license or eligibility to obtain Minnesota licensure before beginning employment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all required federal and state prescribing or controlled-substance registrations.
- Strong clinical judgment and commitment to responsible, evidence-informed veterinary medicine.
- Clear, compassionate, and professional communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with other veterinarians, technicians, assistants, client-service representatives, and hospital leadership.
- Dependable, organized, and attentive to medical documentation and follow-through.
- Small-animal clinical experience is preferred but not required.
- Surgical experience is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with EzyVet is helpful but not required; training can be provided.
- Experienced veterinarians and qualified new graduates are encouraged to apply.
