Full Job Description

Alternative Behavioral Solutions, Inc. is seeking a dedicated and experienced Community Support Team (CST) Team Lead to provide clinical leadership and direct services to adults with significant mental health and/or substance use needs.

The CST Team Lead is responsible for providing clinical oversight and leadership to the Community Support Team while also delivering community-based therapeutic interventions to individuals served. The ideal candidate will have experience working with adults with serious mental illness, co-occurring disorders, crisis needs, housing instability, and other barriers that affect successful community living.

The CST Team Lead must be a licensed or associate-licensed behavioral health therapist in North Carolina.

Licensure Requirements

Candidates must possess a current North Carolina professional license or associate license in an eligible behavioral health discipline, such as:

LCSW or LCSWA
LCMHC or LCMHCA
LMFT or LMFTA
LCAS or LCASA, when qualifications meet applicable CST requirements
Other appropriately licensed behavioral health professionals who meet North Carolina Medicaid and applicable service-definition requirements for the CST Team Lead position

Associate-licensed therapists are encouraged to apply.

Essential Job Responsibilities

The CST Team Lead will provide clinical leadership, coordination, and oversight of services provided by the Community Support Team. Responsibilities include completing or overseeing comprehensive clinical assessments, person-centered planning, treatment plan development, service authorization requirements, and ongoing evaluation of individuals' progress.

The Team Lead will provide individual and team-based clinical interventions in the community and will work collaboratively with individuals, families, psychiatrists, primary care providers, hospitals, housing providers, substance use treatment providers, probation/parole when applicable, and other community resources.

The Team Lead will provide clinical direction and supervision to CST team members and help ensure that services are delivered according to the individual's Person-Centered Plan and current clinical needs.

Additional responsibilities include participating in team meetings, reviewing clinical documentation, monitoring service delivery, coordinating care, assisting with crisis prevention and intervention, supporting hospital diversion and community stabilization, and helping individuals maintain successful community placement.

The CST Team Lead will ensure documentation is accurate, clinically appropriate, timely, and compliant with agency policies, Medicaid requirements, applicable MCO requirements, and state and federal regulations.

Because CST is a community-based service, the Team Lead must be comfortable providing services in individuals' homes and other community settings rather than providing services exclusively from an office.

Clinical Responsibilities

The Team Lead will provide therapeutic interventions within the scope of the clinician's license and CST service requirements. Duties may include assessment of symptoms and functioning, treatment planning, motivational interviewing, psychoeducation, crisis intervention, relapse prevention, development of coping skills, substance use interventions when clinically appropriate, coordination of psychiatric and medical services, and interventions designed to improve stability and independent functioning in the community.

The Team Lead will monitor for changes in psychiatric symptoms, substance use, medication adherence, safety concerns, housing stability, hospitalization risk, and other factors that may affect the individual's ability to remain successfully in the community.

Team Leadership Responsibilities

The CST Team Lead is expected to provide strong clinical leadership while maintaining a team-based approach to service delivery. Responsibilities include providing clinical guidance to team members, reviewing cases, identifying barriers to treatment, helping staff develop appropriate interventions, monitoring progress toward treatment goals, and ensuring appropriate coordination among CST team members.

The Team Lead will participate in the development of strategies to reduce psychiatric hospitalization, emergency department utilization, homelessness, incarceration, and other negative outcomes associated with serious behavioral health conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have a master's degree in counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, psychology, addiction counseling, or another applicable behavioral health discipline and possess an active North Carolina professional license or associate license appropriate for the position.

Applicants must meet all applicable requirements for the Community Support Team service under current North Carolina Medicaid, MCO, and agency standards.

Candidates should have experience working with adults with serious mental illness and/or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Previous experience with CST, ACT, Assertive Community Treatment, Intensive In-Home, Mobile Crisis, outpatient behavioral health, case management, or another community-based behavioral health service is strongly preferred.

Additional Requirements

Candidates must have strong clinical assessment, crisis intervention, communication, leadership, and documentation skills. Applicants must be able to work independently in community settings while functioning effectively as the clinical leader of an interdisciplinary team.

The position requires reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, the ability to travel throughout the service area, successful completion of required background and credentialing checks, and the ability to meet agency and payer credentialing requirements.

Candidates must also be willing to participate in crisis response and flexible scheduling as required by the CST service model.

We are looking for a clinician who can lead a team while remaining actively engaged with the individuals we serve. The successful candidate will be organized, dependable, clinically knowledgeable, comfortable working in the community, and able to effectively manage individuals with complex behavioral health and psychosocial needs.

Experience with Medicaid documentation, Person-Centered Plans, service authorizations, crisis planning, care coordination, and North Carolina behavioral health services is highly desirable.
