Full Job Description

Class Title: Tenant Services
____________________________________________________________________________

A. Purpose:

Tenant Services will be responsible for providing information and assistance to residents struggling to pay their monthly rent due to financial challenges. This staff person will maintain an understanding of the eligibility criteria of all governmental and non-governmental resources and protections available to assist renters to avoid eviction. The Tenant Services Person will provide information and assistance to renters seeking to access these resources and protections. The Tenant Services Person will be responsible for ensuring all client data is protected and ensure that all case activities and outcomes are well documented in relevant databases. The Tenant Services Person will provide excellent customer service to clients by responding to all inquiries in a timely manner and with appropriate assistance.

C. Functions:

1. Network with governmental and nonprofit partners, attending meetings and cultivating relationships with relevant staff, to stay abreast of new resources and protections designed to help renters stabilize their rental housing.

2. Respond to calls from residents at risk of eviction, answer questions, and help schedule appointment that pertain to housing.

3. Where applicable, assist clients to apply for programs that could provide financial or other assistance to stabilize housing, and maintain communication with clients until applications are processed and determinations are provided.

4. Refer Clients to appropriate services to address their various needs such as food, utility assistance, clothing, medical care, etc.

5. Thoroughly and accurately document all case activities and outcomes and enter required information in the prescribed database.

6. Where possible, work with property managers to create re-payments agreements.

7. Provide monthly reports to the Program Supervisor.

8. Assist Property Managers and the Tenant Certification Specialist in collecting the necessary information and documents to process Recertifications.

D. Reporting Relationships:

Typically reports to a Program Supervisor, does not supervise but may train or direct other temporary workers.

E. Challenges and Problems:

Challenges include successfully contacting residents who are not in compliance with the dwelling lease or housing regulations.

F. Decision-making Authority:

Decisions include when to schedule appointments and resident training/information opportunities.

G. Contact with Others:

Daily contact with other PCHRC staff, outside agencies, and residents.

H. Working Conditions:

The incumbent works in a typical office environment.

I. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

· General office duties, writing letters, answering phones, filing, preparing reports, interpreting policies and procedures, proficiency in office equipment.

· Comprehensive computer skills to include Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), report review and data input

Ability To:

· work with a wide diversity of clients and partners

· attend to resident requests and/or emergency needs in a timely and cordial manner.

· effectively communicate (written and oral) with all levels of employees and outside agencies.
