Product Manager

About Archipelago Lighting

For more than 30 years, Archipelago Lighting has been providing our customers with a wide range of lighting and consumer products. We hold more than 15 lighting patents, and serve thousands of customers, including some of the largest retailers in the US. With our overseas factories and factory partners we source the best quality components and have flexibility on final construction, including from our facilities in Riverside and Montclair, CA.

Summary:

The Product Manager is responsible for bringing a product in the concept stage all the way to the final production, including regulatory, compliance and safety testing. This position works with C-suite as well as factory engineers to develop, analyze, and produce world class lighting products. Also, the role will have touchpoints with most other departments including sales, marketing, and shipping departments.

Primary Job Functions:

Develop new consumer products, with an eye for features, functionality, and design
Identify customer needs and market requirements from sales and trending products
Act as the primary bridge between Retail requirements and factory R&D
Manage and own the lifecycle of products in development including all specs, regulatory documents, factory audits
Establish and maintain a Product Information source of truth, accessible by all internal employees
Evaluate all BOMs and the technical integration of electrical and mechanical components
Partner with marketing and sales personnel to define selling features, go-to-market strategy, and ensure understanding of product positioning, key benefits, and target customer
Balance pricing strategies by understanding component costs and making cost saving recommendations on existing and new products
Work with sales to define customer ordering/shipping, requirements, packaging types, and product release schedules
Manage factory communication on each item to ensure all QC and specifications are met, and within the timeline given by our customers.
Serve as the subject matter expert for each product offering, and engage with Retail buyers and Overseas teams on technical or specification questions.

Experience & Responsibilities

A minimum of 4 years in Retail manufacturing
Proven experience taking new technology and driving product to market opportunities
Excellent communication and collaborative skills
Ability to explain technical concepts to a non-‐technical audience
Professional demeanor and team player
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in various phases of project development
Excellent time management, planning and organizational skills
Ability to travel 3-4 times annually
