Full Job Description

Position Overview

BHRev is seeking an experienced Behavioral Health Biller to support end-to-end revenue cycle operations for mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) providers.

This role requires a strong understanding of the entire revenue cycle, including verification of benefits, prior authorizations, claims submission, payment posting, and accounts receivable follow-up. The ideal candidate will also have experience in managing claim rejections and denials to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement.

Key Responsibilities:

Full Cycle Revenue Cycle Management

Manage full-cycle billing for behavioral health providers
Submit accurate and timely claims
Monitor claim status and follow up on outstanding accounts receivable
Post payments and reconcile accounts
Maintain accurate documentation within billing systems and payer portals

Verification of Benefits (VOB)

Conduct detailed insurance eligibility and benefits verification
Accurately document coverage details including copays, deductibles, OOP maximums, and authorization requirements
Communicate benefit information clearly to internal teams and/or clients

Prior Authorizations

Obtain initial prior authorizations as required by payers
Track and manage ongoing/concurrent authorizations
Coordinate clinical documentation submissions when needed
Maintain authorization logs to ensure no lapse in coverage

Claims Follow-Up, Rejections & Denials

Identify and resolve claim rejections and denials in a timely manner
Submit corrected claims and appeals as appropriate
Communicate with payers to resolve billing issues
Recognize trends and escalate recurring issues to improve processes

Payer Communication

Communicate with insurance companies via phone and payer portals
Navigate payer-specific billing rules and requirements
Maintain organized documentation of payer interactions

Credentialing Support (Preferred)

Assist with provider enrollments and revalidations (Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial payers)
Support credentialing tracking and documentation
Follow up on enrollment applications as needed

QualificationsRequired

2+ years of behavioral health billing experience
Strong understanding of full-cycle RCM
Experience with:
Verification of Benefits (VOB)
Prior Authorizations (initial and concurrent)
Claims submission and A/R follow-up
Rejection and denial resolution
Knowledge of CPT/HCPCS codes and behavioral health billing workflows
Experience working with clearinghouses and payer portals
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to work independently in a remote environment

Preferred (Not Required)

Experience with provider credentialing and payer enrollments
Familiarity with Medicaid and MCO billing (multi-state a plus)
Experience with behavioral health EHR/RCM systems
Knowledge of CARF, Joint Commission, or other compliance frameworks
