Job description:

Our client is seeking an experienced Tax Accounting Director to lead all aspects of the organization's tax function. This individual will serve as the company's subject matter expert on federal, state, and local tax matters while providing strategic leadership to a high-performing tax team. The Tax Director will oversee tax compliance, reporting, planning, and process improvements, ensuring the organization remains compliant while supporting business growth and acquisition activity.

This is a temp to perm role, 6+ months contract with strong conversion potential. Fully remote opportunity - high preference for northeast MA, NH, RI, CT, VT, PA.

MUST have corporate experience in a mid-sized organization, leading tax initiatives in a change/growth-oriented environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong tax leader who enjoys driving operational excellence, partnering with executive leadership, and building scalable tax processes in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and develop the corporate tax function, providing direction, mentorship, and oversight to the tax team.
Oversee all federal, state, and local tax compliance activities, ensuring timely and accurate filings across multiple jurisdictions.
Own the corporate tax provision process and related general ledger accounts, including review of journal entries and account reconciliations.
Evaluate the organization's tax footprint to ensure ongoing compliance with changing state and local tax regulations.
Manage relationships with external tax advisors, consultants, and service providers.
Monitor and strengthen internal controls to support regulatory compliance and financial reporting accuracy.
Drive automation initiatives, system enhancements, and continuous process improvements within the tax function.
Partner closely with Accounting, Finance, Legal, HR, external auditors, and tax consultants on tax-related matters.
Lead and coordinate all tax audits, responding to inquiries and managing audit activities through completion.
Research new tax legislation and emerging regulatory changes, assessing business impact and recommending appropriate actions.
Support executive leadership with tax planning, strategic initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, and business integrations.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and enhance the overall effectiveness of the tax function.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation strongly preferred.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
10+ years of progressive corporate tax experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations, including income, sales, franchise, and property taxes.
Experience preparing and reviewing complex tax provisions and corporate tax filings.
Strong technical accounting and tax research capabilities.
Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, and post-acquisition integrations.
Demonstrated success leading and developing high-performing teams.
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills.
Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities with executives and cross-functional stakeholders.
Experience within a private equity-backed or highly acquisitive organization is strongly preferred.

Preferred Experience

Multi-state corporate tax environment.
Experience leading tax transformation initiatives, including automation and systems improvements.
Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth organization while balancing strategic initiatives and day-to-day operational responsibilities.

Pay: $84.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
