Full Job Description

AdaptiveVets Solutions is seeking a senior technical leader to serve as Maintenance Technical Director, providing technical authority over enterprise cloud platform architecture, engineering, and maintenance for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

This role is responsible for the stability, reliability, and continuous improvement of an enterprise AWS GovCloud Kubernetes platform, with an availability target of 99.995% incident-free uptime for mission-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the senior technical authority responsible for all Architecture, Engineering, and Maintenance activities on the AWS EKS platform, including management of nodes, clusters, networking, storage, and supporting capabilities.
Ensure 99.995% incident-free availability for mission-critical applications and 99.95% for non-mission-critical applications across all platform environments.
Lead adaptive, perfective, preventive, and corrective maintenance for all platform services and capabilities.
Deliver and maintain comprehensive architecture packages including high-level design (HLD) and low-level design (LLD) documents, updated each Program Increment (PI).
Develop and maintain the Platform Dependency List and Maintenance Plan for all platform services.
Ensure all platform software operates within VA Technology Reference Model (TRM)-approved versions with zero end-of-support or end-of-life components.
Oversee certificate management, secrets management, and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) operations across the platform.
Conduct and deliver Architecture, Engineering, and Maintenance Assessments each PI, identifying risks, gaps, and improvement recommendations.
Lead platform modernization efforts and ensure alignment with VA Enterprise Architecture guidelines.
Provide technical leadership and SME guidance to engineering teams and ensure cross-training across infrastructure and system dependencies.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or related field (6 additional years of relevant experience may substitute)
15+ years of experience in enterprise cloud platform engineering and technical leadership for mission-critical systems
Expert-level knowledge of AWS GovCloud services including EKS, EC2, RDS, DocumentDB, Kinesis, MSK, ElastiCache, and Athena
Deep experience with Kubernetes cluster administration, EKS lifecycle management, node operations, and Istio service mesh
Demonstrated experience in a SAFe environment supporting Federal Government programs
Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform), CI/CD pipelines, and automated configuration management
Knowledge of Federal IT compliance requirements including VA TRM, FISMA, and NIST 800-53

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Consul, Vault, Active Directory, Nexus, and Postfix in enterprise cloud environments
Familiarity with PKI operations, certificate lifecycle management, and secrets rotation automation
AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional or equivalent certification
Experience delivering architecture packages and technical briefings to Federal Government leadership

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or IT (Required)

License/Certification:

AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional (Preferred)
