Tax Accountant
Remote role (preferably based in Austin, TX)

Job Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Tax Accountant with strong interpersonal skills to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in tax preparation and compliance, with experience supporting both individual and small business clients. This role is highly client-facing and requires someone who enjoys building relationships, providing thoughtful guidance, and helping clients navigate complex tax matters. The successful candidate will combine strong technical tax knowledge with the ability to communicate complex concepts in a clear, practical way.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, S corporations, and LLCs.
Engage regularly with clients to provide tax planning, advisory support, and guidance on tax-related matters.
Conduct tax research and stay current on changes in tax laws and regulations.
Identify and implement tax planning strategies to help minimize clients’ tax liabilities.
Assist with IRS and state tax notices, audits, and other tax authority inquiries, including gathering documentation and preparing responses.
Respond to client tax questions in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
Maintain organized tax records and ensure compliance with filing requirements and deadlines.
Collaborate with team members to deliver comprehensive tax, accounting, and advisory services.
Assist with financial statement preparation and other accounting-related projects as needed.
Provide bookkeeping and general accounting support as needed.
Participate in continuing education and professional development to stay current on tax laws, regulations, and industry best practices.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
CPA and/or EA certification required
Strong knowledge of GAAP, tax accounting principles, and federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations
4+ years of experience preparing federal and state tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1065, 1120S, and 1120
Experience supporting clients with payroll and related compliance matters
Proficient with QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Office Suite, UltraTax (or similar tax prep software); Airtable experience is a plus
Tech savvy with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software and technologies
Comfortable and confident working directly with multiple clients in a highly client-facing role
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Highly organized and self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Resourceful, proactive, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
