We are seeking a warm, thoughtful, and highly skilled Registered Dietitian to join our growing virtual nutrition practice part-time, with the option of increasing to full-time. At Wholesome Nutrition, we believe excellent nutrition care is about much more than providing nutrition information; it is about understanding the person sitting in front of you and helping them create meaningful, sustainable change.
We are looking for a dietitian who excels in nutrition counseling and genuinely enjoys getting to know their patients. The ability to create a trusting, nonjudgmental, and supportive therapeutic relationship is one of the most important qualities we are looking for. Our ideal candidate listens deeply, asks thoughtful questions, recognizes the factors influencing a patient's relationship with food and health, and adapts their counseling approach to meet each individual where they are.
Candidates should have a strong foundation in nutrition science and Medical Nutrition Therapy and be committed to staying current with evidence-based nutrition research and clinical practice. We are looking for someone who can confidently apply their nutrition knowledge to individual patient situations while recognizing that nutrition information alone does not create lasting change. We place a strong emphasis on counseling strategy, behavior change, and relationship-building, and value dietitians who can balance nutrition science with the emotional, behavioral, social, and environmental factors that influence how people eat and care for themselves.
Above all, we are looking for a dietitian who believes that the quality of the relationship matters just as much as the quality of the nutrition advice. Our patients are trusting us with deeply personal aspects of their health and lives, and we want someone who approaches that responsibility with warmth, curiosity, compassion, and genuine care.
If you are the type of dietitian who lights up when a patient says, “I've never thought about it that way before,” or who finds the counseling conversation just as interesting as the nutrition science, you may be a great fit for Wholesome Nutrition!
Job Responsibilities
- Provide virtual nutrition assessment and counseling sessions to patients via telehealth.
- Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments that consider the patient's medical and nutrition history, lifestyle, relationship with food, current challenges, environment, preferences, and goals.

- Use active listening, thoughtful questioning, reflection, collaborative goal-setting, and other evidence-based counseling and behavior-change strategies to facilitate meaningful and sustainable change.
- Collaborate with patients to identify their wants, needs, barriers, strengths, and priorities.
- Apply sound clinical judgment and provide evidence-based nutrition education and recommendations in a way that is practical, individualized, and understandable.
- Support patients in developing greater autonomy, confidence, and self-efficacy around their health and nutrition.
- Communicate with patients between sessions as appropriate and maintain consistent follow-through throughout their care.

- Develop and implement individualized nutrition care plans based on each patient's assessment, goals, preferences, and clinical needs.
- Incorporate nutrition, lifestyle, and other appropriate recommendations, including foods, supplements, and behavioral strategies, when clinically indicated.
- Educate patients on the relationship between nutrition, lifestyle, and overall health, including the role of nutrition in preventing and managing chronic conditions.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust nutrition care plans as needed based on changing goals, needs, and response to intervention.
- Recognize when a patient's needs fall outside the dietitian's scope of practice and make appropriate referrals or collaborate with other healthcare professionals when indicated.

- Communicate complex nutrition information clearly, accurately, and supportively.
- Participate in case discussions, team meetings, and opportunities for clinical collaboration and learning.

- A supportive team environment that values evidence-based practice, thoughtful counseling, professional growth, and patient-centered care.
- A practice culture that prioritizes quality of care and meaningful patient relationships over a one-size-fits-all approach.
Please include a cover letter that addresses the following questions. We'd love to learn more about your clinical philosophy, counseling style, and approach to patient care.
1. “It’s about more than just ‘food.’”
At Wholesome Nutrition, one of our key phrases is that “It’s about more than just ‘food.’” Describe how this philosophy resonates with your values and approach as a dietitian. What does this mean to you in the context of working with patients?
2. Your Counseling Style
What qualities do you believe a dietitian must possess to be effective in an outpatient nutrition counseling setting? Additionally, describe your personal counseling style when working with patients.
3. Patient-Centered Assessment & Individualized Care
At Wholesome Nutrition, we pride ourselves on our ability to assess each patient and provide truly individualized, patient-centered care. We recognize that there is no single “right” approach to nutrition counseling. The appropriate approach may vary based on a patient’s goals, needs, preferences, readiness for change, relationship with food and their body, clinical risk, and other factors.
Our counseling may range from incorporating weight-management principles and objective data when appropriate, to using intuitive eating and other no-numbers approaches, or a combination of different strategies.
Describe your confidence and experience in assessing what approach is most appropriate for an individual patient. How do you determine what types of education, interventions, and counseling strategies are likely to be most helpful for a particular patient?
4. Adapting Your Approach
Tell us about a time when you had to change your initial approach with a patient because you realized that what you were recommending was not the right fit for them. What did you notice, how did you adjust, and what did you learn from the experience?
5. Therapeutic Modalities & the Intersection of Mental Health and Nutrition
Many of our patients have a complex relationship with food, body image, weight, and/or health behaviors. Behavior change in general is a very complex journey. As dietitians, we believe that understanding therapeutic frameworks can greatly enhance the way we provide nutrition care.
Describe your experience and comfort level with utilizing concepts or approaches from therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and/or Motivational Interviewing (MI).
While Wholesome Nutrition dietitians do not provide psychotherapy or direct therapeutic interventions outside the scope of nutrition counseling, our work often exists at the intersection of mental health and medical nutrition therapy. Please describe any relevant education, training, or experience you have in this area and how you incorporate these concepts into your nutrition counseling.
6. Anything Else You’d Like Us to Know
Feel free to include any additional information that you believe would help us understand why you would be a strong and compatible fit for the Wholesome Nutrition team.
Applications that do not include a cover letter addressing the questions above will not be considered.
