Woundtech is seeking a Director of Software Engineering & Architecture. In this role, you will lead Software Engineering, Architecture, DevSecOps, and Platform Engineering functions while providing strategic leadership and oversight to the Data Intelligence organization (Business Intelligence and Data Science). You will play a critical role in shaping the company’s technology strategy, accelerating product delivery, modernizing engineering practices, and ensuring our platforms are scalable, secure, resilient, compliant, and AI-enabled.This is a highly visible leadership role within a fast-growing healthcare technology organization focused on delivering mission-critical clinical and operational platforms. You will partner closely with Product, Security, Clinical Operations, Compliance, and Executive Leadership to build innovative solutions that improve patient outcomes, clinician efficiency, operational scalability, and business performance.The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong operational leadership, thrives in fast-paced environments, and can balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.In this role, you will:
- Lead the architecture, design, and delivery of scalable web, API-first, and cloud-native applications leveraging technologies such as AWS, React, Node.js, GraphQL, Terraform, and modern microservices/event-driven architectures.
- Drive modernization and standardization of engineering practices, including DevSecOps, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD automation, observability, automated testing, secure SDLC, and AI-assisted software delivery workflows.
- Partner closely with Product Management and business stakeholders to translate complex clinical, operational, and business requirements into scalable technical solutions and platform capabilities.
- Establish and enforce engineering, architecture, security, and operational standards that support HIPAA-compliant, highly available, and resilient healthcare systems.
- Lead engineering efforts around interoperability and healthcare integrations, including APIs, HL7/FHIR, EHR integrations, OCR/RPA workflows, and data exchange platforms.
- Provide strategic oversight and alignment for Data Intelligence initiatives, ensuring analytics, AI/ML, automation, and reporting capabilities are tightly integrated into operational and product workflows.
- Help drive the organization’s AI strategy and adoption, including AI-enabled SDLC practices, intelligent automation, predictive analytics, and clinical AI initiatives.
- Own platform reliability, scalability, observability, and operational excellence across production and non-production environments.
- Collaborate closely with Security and Compliance leadership to strengthen cybersecurity posture, vulnerability management, governance, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance initiatives including SOC 2, HIPAA, and HITRUST readiness.
- Build, mentor, and scale high-performing distributed engineering teams across multiple geographies and disciplines.
- Drive accountability through engineering metrics, operational KPIs, delivery reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives in a PE-backed, results-oriented environment.
- Contribute hands-on to architecture, technical strategy, incident resolution, and complex engineering challenges when necessary.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Define technical vision, engineering strategy, and architectural standards in partnership with executive leadership.
- Lead the delivery of scalable, secure, and maintainable software platforms supporting clinical, operational, and business workflows.
- Oversee full SDLC execution from architecture and development through deployment, observability, and operational support.
- Drive engineering predictability, execution quality, and release velocity through Agile and AI-assisted development methodologies.
- Lead architecture reviews and technology decisions across application, integration, infrastructure, and data platforms.
- Champion API-first, event-driven, and cloud-native architecture patterns.
- Continuously improve system scalability, resiliency, performance, disaster recovery, and cost optimization.
- Standardize Infrastructure as Code, environment consistency, and deployment automation across AWS environments.
- Partner with Security leadership to embed security throughout the SDLC and infrastructure lifecycle.
- Ensure adoption of secure coding standards, vulnerability management processes, automated security scanning, secrets management, and compliance controls.
- Support cloud security best practices leveraging services and tools such as AWS GuardDuty, Inspector, CloudTrail, WAF, SIEM platforms, and container security tooling.
- Drive operational maturity around monitoring, alerting, incident response, observability, and platform reliability.
- Provide strategic oversight to Business Intelligence and Data Science functions.
- Ensure data platforms and analytics initiatives support operational scalability, clinical outcomes, executive reporting, and AI-driven innovation.
- Partner with Data Intelligence teams to operationalize predictive analytics, machine learning models, OCR pipelines, intelligent automation, and reporting solutions.
- Promote modern AI-enabled engineering practices and evaluate emerging technologies that improve delivery efficiency and business value.
- Mentor and develop engineering leaders and individual contributors through coaching, accountability, and career growth planning.
- Foster a high-performance culture centered around ownership, collaboration, innovation, continuous learning, and operational excellence.
- Track and report engineering KPIs including delivery predictability, quality, operational health, system reliability, and platform costs.
- Manage technical debt, platform modernization, and prioritization balancing speed, stability, security, and scalability.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience building modern software applications and distributed systems using technologies such as React, Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, and cloud-native architectures.
- 5+ years leading software engineering, architecture, DevOps, or platform engineering teams in high-growth environments.
- Deep hands-on experience designing and operating scalable systems on AWS.
- Strong experience with DevSecOps practices, CI/CD automation, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred), containerized workloads, observability, and cloud operations.
- Experience implementing secure SDLC practices and partnering with cybersecurity teams in regulated environments.
- Strong understanding of software architecture patterns, system integration strategies, API design, and distributed systems.
- Experience leading technical teams through modernization, transformation, or scaling initiatives.
- Strong operational mindset with experience tracking engineering metrics, delivery performance, uptime, reliability, and cloud cost optimization.
- Excellent communication, leadership, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Comfortable operating both strategically and hands-on when needed.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience in healthcare technology, digital health, or other regulated industries.
- Knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR, CCD/C-CDA, and EHR integrations.
- Familiarity with HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, HITECH, and healthcare security/compliance frameworks.
- Experience with Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Python, AI/ML workflows, OCR/RPA pipelines, and modern data platforms.
- Experience supporting AI-enabled product development, predictive analytics, or clinical AI initiatives.
- Experience managing distributed/global engineering teams and offshore delivery models.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tooling and modern engineering acceleration platforms.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
