About ICS Tax

ICS Tax, LLC is a nationally recognized specialty tax consulting firm providing advanced tax solutions to businesses nationwide. Our services include cost segregation, fixed asset reviews, R&D tax credits, energy incentives, and strategic tax advisory services.

As part of our continued growth, ICS is expanding into State and Local Tax (SALT) services, with a focus on sales and use tax consulting, audit defense, and tax minimization strategies. Our model emphasizes technical excellence, responsiveness, and long-term relationships with CPA firms and business owners.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced SALT / Sales & Use Tax Consultant to help build and grow our SALT practice. This role is ideal for a professional with strong technical expertise in multistate sales and use tax combined with an entrepreneurial mindset and an existing book of business or referral network.

This individual will play a key role in both client delivery and practice development, working closely with leadership to expand ICS Tax’s service offerings.

Key Responsibilities

Client Service & Technical Work

Provide advisory services on sales and use tax compliance, planning, and strategy for multi-state businesses
Perform nexus reviews, taxability analyses, voluntary disclosures, and audit defense
Identify and implement opportunities to minimize sales and use tax liabilities and recover refunds
Conduct technical research and prepare memorandums on complex SALT issues
Manage interactions with state and local taxing authorities, including audit resolution and controversy matters
Review contracts, invoices, and transactions for proper sales tax treatment

Business Development (Critical Component)

Leverage existing relationships to generate new SALT consulting engagements
Develop and expand a book of business within ICS Tax’s client base and external network
Build referral channels with CPAs, attorneys, and business owners
Identify cross-selling opportunities across ICS service lines (cost segregation, credits, fixed asset reviews)
Participate in networking events, presentations, and marketing initiatives
Collaborate with leadership on SALT practice growth strategy and go-to-market initiatives

Qualifications

5+ years of experience in State and Local Tax, with a focus on Sales & Use Tax
Proven track record of client relationship management and business development
Existing book of business, referral network, or demonstrated ability to generate revenue preferred
Deep knowledge of multistate sales and use tax laws, nexus rules, and audit procedures
Experience with:
Audit defense and controversy
Voluntary disclosures and nexus studies
Reverse audits and refund studies
CPA or JD preferred
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax issues to non-technical clients
