Full Job Description

Controller

Salary: $75,000 to $95,000 per year, DOE

Stodtmeister Iron is seeking an experienced and highly organized Business Manager with construction accounting experience to oversee the financial and administrative operations of our growing commercial steel fabrication and installation company.

This is a key leadership support role responsible for the day-to-day financial health and administrative organization of the business. We are looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems, improving processes, and helping leadership make informed business decisions. Success in this role requires exceptional organization, accountability, initiative, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

Take ownership of the company's accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, reconciliations, and monthly financial reporting.
Manage customer collections while maintaining professional client relationships.
Prepare customer invoices, pay applications, lien waivers, billing documentation, and monitor retention.
Process payroll, employee benefits, prevailing wage, and certified payroll reporting.
Review contracts and monitor project compliance requirements.
Maintain business licenses, insurance certificates, and regulatory compliance.
Support Human Resources, employee onboarding, benefits administration, and personnel records.
Coordinate the company's financial and administrative operations while providing support to company leadership.

What We're Looking For

Strong accounting skills with the desire to take ownership of the company's financial information. The successful candidate will look beyond data entry, understand what the numbers are saying, identify issues, and provide accurate financial information that supports sound business decisions.
Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Professional communication skills and confidence managing customer collections.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and accounting software.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Self-motivated, resourceful, and comfortable researching answers, solving problems, and learning independently.
Positive attitude with a commitment to continuous improvement and process improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

Construction accounting experience.
Experience with prevailing wage and certified payroll.
Experience with AIA billing, pay applications, schedules of values, lien waivers, and contract administration.
Experience with construction accounting software or ERP systems.
Human Resources and benefits administration experience.
