Position Summary
Teklus Construction is seeking an experienced and proactive Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Professional to support and strengthen company-wide safety, compliance, and risk management initiatives. The EHS Professional provides on-shift environmental, health, and safety oversight for Dugout Operations. This position is responsible for implementing and enforcing the project EHS program during the assigned shift, with specific focus on the hazards associated with tarping activities, door operations, and working at heights. The EHS Professional partners with operations leadership to drive a strong safety culture and ensure regulatory compliance.

Job-Specific Responsibilities
- Provide continuous on-shift EHS oversight of tarping and door-opening activities, including fall protection compliance, equipment use, and proper sequencing.
- Develop, review, and approve Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Pre-Task Safety Plans for tarping, door operations, and related tasks.
- Conduct daily inspections of tarping equipment, fall protection systems, anchor points, door hardware, and associated PPE.
- Audit confined space entries, hot work, and elevated work permits associated with dugout operations.
- Investigate near-misses and incidents during the assigned shift; document findings and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate with the Operations Lead and Superintendent on stop-work events, safety stand-downs, and corrective action implementation.
- Monitor weather, wind, precipitation, temperature, and other ambient conditions throughout the shift; advise the Operations Lead and Operations Superintendent on conditions approaching or exceeding established project thresholds.
- Issue timely weather and ambient-condition updates to project and client communication channels — including group chats, verbal communication, written notifications, and other designated channels — to keep operations leadership and field personnel informed of changing conditions.
- Enforce wind speed, temperature, and precipitation operating constraints for tarping and door-access activities and support stop-work decisions when limits are exceeded.
- Track shift-level leading and lagging safety indicators and contribute data to project safety metrics.
General Industry Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain the site EHS program in alignment with OSHA, EPA, and client-specific standards.
- Lead toolbox talks, safety meetings, shift safety briefings, and new-hire safety orientations.
- Maintain training records, SDS library, inspection logs, OSHA 300 logs, and other regulatory documentation.
- Conduct industrial hygiene monitoring (noise, dust, air quality, heat stress) as required and interpret results.
- Manage permit-to-work systems including hot work, confined space, LOTO, elevated work, and excavation.
- Coordinate emergency response, drills, first aid response, and post-incident care.
- Support root cause analysis using methods such as 5-Why, TapRooT, or Cause Map.
- Maintain compliance with environmental requirements including spill prevention, waste handling, and stormwater management.
- Wear, inspect, and properly maintain all required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, high-visibility clothing, and fall protection equipment as required by task.
- Participate in pre-shift safety huddles, toolbox talks, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
- Comply with OSHA standards, Teklus Construction safety policies, and client-specific site requirements.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, hot work, fall protection, and hazard communication procedures.
- Report to shift on time, prepared, and fit for duty.
- Conduct accurate shift turnover with incoming and outgoing personnel, including verbal briefing and written log entries.
- Support cross-shift consistency by following established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Communicate operational status, equipment condition, and material flow to supervisors throughout the shift.
- Complete required documentation including daily reports, inspection logs, and timekeeping records.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Minimum 3 years of EHS experience in construction, heavy industrial, or similar environments.
- OSHA 30 Hour Construction certification.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
- Working knowledge of OSHA 1910 and 1926 standards, EPA regulations, and DOT requirements as applicable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact across all organizational levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- CHST, STSC, ASP, GSP, or CSP certification.
- Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer (10/30-Hour Construction).
- Experience with permit-to-work systems, behavior-based safety programs, and incident management software.
- Prior experience supporting construction or field operations involving tarping, fall protection, or access door work.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs regularly and 75 lbs occasionally.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs, bend, stoop, and work overhead for extended periods.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces with appropriate fall protection and training.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
- Tolerance for exposure to dust, noise, vibration, and proximity to moving equipment and vehicles.
- Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays as required by operational needs.
Shift Coverage
This position operates on a 24/7 schedule with positions filled across all three shifts:
- 1st Shift (Day) — 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM
- 2nd Shift (Swing) — 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- 3rd Shift (Night) — 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM
Shift differential pay may apply for 2nd and 3rd shift positions per company policy.
