The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a motivated and collaborative part-time Information Technology Technician - Data Analytics (Hourly City Worker) to support the Information Technology Department. This part-time position offers an excellent opportunity for students and early-career technology professionals to gain hands-on experience working with enterprise applications, data analytics, automation, and technology solutions that support City operations while working alongside experienced IT professionals.

This is a part-time position working approximately 15-25 hours per week, not to exceed 29 hours per week or 1,000 hours in a fiscal year (July 1st– June 30th).

Primary Responsibilities

Assist with a variety of assignments and day-to-day tasks under the guidance of IT Department staff, including:

Support the development, maintenance, and enhancement of enterprise applications, reports, and data solutions
Assist with data collection, validation, analysis, and reporting to support City departments and business operations
Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, data queries, and automated processes using approved City technologies
Support application integrations, data imports/exports, and API-based solutions
Troubleshoot application, data, and reporting issues while documenting findings and recommended solutions
Assist with application testing, system implementations, upgrades, and ongoing maintenance activities
Provide responsive technical assistance and customer support to City staff
Create and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and user guides
Manage multiple assignments while maintaining accuracy, organization, and attention to detail
Perform other related duties in support of the Information Technology Department

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess:

Progress toward, or completion of, a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Information Technology, or a related field
Experience with data analysis, reporting, or application development through coursework, internships, or professional experience
Working knowledge of relational databases, SQL, Microsoft Excel, and data analysis concepts
Familiarity with programming or scripting languages such as Python, VBA, or JavaScript
Exposure to APIs, system integrations, or automation tools is desirable
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical staff or end users
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team
