SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER COUNSELOR

COMMUNITY SUPPORT PROGRAMS

FULL TIME – EXEMPT

Thrive Behavioral Health, the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic for Kent County, has been delivering mental health and substance use services since 1976. Thrive Behavioral Health understands the benefits of delivering high quality, low-cost care for Rhode Islanders. Thrive’s unique programs and services are built on evidence based, person-centric care models. Our programs include: Adult Mental Health, Youth and Family, Substance Use, Housing, Teen and Young Adult, Court Ordered, and Crisis Behavioral Health. With more than a dozen locations across Rhode Island and more than 300 employees, Thrive is continuing to grow and meet the needs of the community.

General Summary: To provide specialized services to clients who are chemically dependent and/or their significant others. Provide and coordinate substance abuse assessment, education, training, and placement services for clients of Community Support Services programs

Schedule: Mon-Fri, First Shift

Location: Warwick, RI

Salary: Starting at $64,000, depending on experience

Essential Responsibilities:

Conduct initial substance abuse assessment services to all clients on team.
Provide individual, group, and family substance abuse treatment and counseling.
Coordinates referrals to other substance abuse treatment programs or facilities in the community/state, i.e. medically assisted treatment or inpatient.
Provide chemical dependency consultation, education and training to team personnel.
Develop and implement person centered recovery plans and document services consistent with Thrive standards.
Coordinate discharge planning, follow up and aftercare.
Monitor signs and symptoms of psychiatric functioning; medication regimen, and substance use.
Assist in community networking and education.
Provide assistance with income maintenance, living arrangements.
Provide education, training and modeling in basic daily living skills, social or parenting skills.
Teach clients effective techniques for managing their medication as prescribed.
Coordinate services within Thrive as needed.
Assist clients in developing and strengthening their support network to accomplish goals and objectives.
Complete billing forms, logs, data collection forms and clinical documentation in accordance with Thrive standards.
Coordinate and monitor medical, dental and psychiatric services.
Assist with locating and maintaining employment.
Provide nutritional education and meal planning.
Transport clients when necessary.
Carry and enliven a positive Thrive image consistent with the Thrive’s Guiding Principles and professional code of ethics.

Education, Experience and Competencies:

Bachelor Degree in behavioral health field or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Two (2) years of relevant substance abuse experience. Certifications, Licenses Requirements:
CDP or working toward credentialing. LCDP preferred.
Valid driver's license and automobile insurance which meets Rhode Island minimum standards required, or the ability to obtain necessary transportation in order to perform the responsibilities/tasks of the job
