Visionary Eye Surgery is a growing, physician-led refractive and cataract practice built around one belief: exceptional outcomes begin with patients who feel genuinely seen, heard, and cared for.
We are looking for an experienced ophthalmic technician and scribe who takes pride in being excellent—someone who can perform a thorough workup, anticipate what the surgeon needs, keep the clinic moving, and create calm for patients during life-changing decisions.
This is not a background position. You will be a trusted clinical partner and an essential part of the patient journey.

What You'll Do
- Independently perform accurate, efficient ophthalmic workups
- Obtain complete histories and prepare charts before the surgeon enters
- Scribe in real time with precise, clinically meaningful documentation
- Perform diagnostic testing, including OCT, corneal topography, biometry/IOL calculations, and other ophthalmic imaging
- Educate and reassure patients throughout their surgical journey
- Support preoperative and postoperative coordination
- Help maintain smooth patient flow without sacrificing warmth or attention
- Assist with procedures in our office-based surgical suite
- Support supply management and room preparation
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused clinical environment
- Identify missing information, potential errors, and incomplete tasks before they affect patient care
- Contribute ideas that make the practice—and the patient experience—better
This Role Is NOT a Fit If You:
Are looking for a training or observation role; need constant direction or hand-holding; have limited ophthalmology experience; are uncomfortable in fast, high-expectation clinics.
This Role IS a Fit If You:
- Have previous ophthalmology clinic experience
- Can confidently perform complete workups and scribe independently
- Understand the importance of accurate, defensible documentation
- Are comfortable working in a fast-moving, high-standard environment
- Remain calm and kind when the clinic becomes busy
- Accept feedback without defensiveness and apply it quickly
- Take ownership instead of waiting to be reminded
- Enjoy earning trust and becoming the person others can depend on
- Want to help build something meaningful—not simply clock in and complete tasks
Strongly Preferred (Bonus Points)
COA / COT / COMT certification; bilingual (Spanish); refractive and/or cataract clinic experience; ophthalmology ASC/OBS experience; scrub tech or surgical assistant background; comfort working in practices that are growing, changing, or restructuring.
Compensation & Evaluation
Pay range: $20-$28, goes up based on experience (no ceiling).
Final compensation is determined after a paid working interview / trial shift, where candidates can demonstrate their ability to perform full workups, testing, scribing, patient flow, and OBS support in a real clinic environment. Exceptional performance during the working interview will be compensated accordingly and may result in a higher starting rate.
