About the Practice

Bluegrass Pediatrics is an independent, provider-owned pediatric practice in Lexington serving families from birth through adolescence. We are a small, close-knit clinical team focused on personal, unhurried care — and we’re growing, with a second provider joining the practice. This role is a fit for an experienced MA who wants meaningful clinical work on a schedule that fits their life, including parents who want hours aligned with the school day.

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant supports providers in delivering safe, efficient, family-centered pediatric care. The MA rooms patients, collects vitals and histories, administers immunizations, performs point-of-care testing, and keeps the clinical day running smoothly. This position works directly with children of all ages and their caregivers, so warmth, patience, and calm confidence with kids are essential.

Essential Duties

Clinical - Room patients; obtain and document height, weight, head circumference, vital signs, and chief complaint appropriate to pediatric age groups - Administer vaccines per provider order and practice immunization protocols; maintain accurate immunization records and registry entries - Perform point-of-care testing (rapid strep, flu, COVID, urinalysis, vision/hearing screens) and collect specimens - Assist providers with procedures and exams; chaperone as needed - Manage vaccine and medical supply inventory, including refrigerator/freezer temperature logs and cold-chain documentation - Clean, stock, and turn over exam rooms between patients; follow infection-control and OSHA protocols - Document all care accurately and timely in the EHR (Oracle Health / Cerner)

Administrative / Team Support - Prepare charts for the next day’s schedule (pre-visit planning, forms, screening questionnaires) - Return routine (non-triage) patient messages and calls as directed; route clinical questions to the triage RN or provider - Cross-cover front desk check-in/checkout during peak times or staff absences - Support referrals, prior authorizations, and records requests as assigned

Qualifications

Required - High school diploma or equivalent - Current BLS/CPR certification (or obtained within 30 days of hire) - Competency in pediatric injections/immunization administration, or willingness to complete competency validation during orientation - Comfort working with infants, children, and adolescents — and their parents - Reliable attendance and punctuality; ability to work independently in a small team

Preferred - Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) - 1+ years of MA experience in pediatrics, family medicine, or urgent care - Experience with Oracle Health / Cerner or comparable EHR

Physical Requirements

Frequent standing and walking; ability to lift/position infants and small children and assist with holds during procedures; occasional lifting up to 30 lbs; manual dexterity for injections and specimen collection.

Compensation & Classification

Hourly, non-exempt; paid bi-monthly
This is a part-time position scheduled under 30 hours/week and is not eligible for group health insurance, PTO, or paid holidays under practice policy
Part-time employees receive all legally required protections and coverage, including workers’ compensation, paid rest breaks and meal periods per Kentucky law, and job-protected leave where applicable

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
