StayWithGK operates a portfolio of 15-20 short-term rental properties across the San Francisco Bay Area. We're looking for the kind of person who notices the burned-out porch light before a guest does, who keeps their car stocked with the spare lockbox batteries and an extra set of bath towels, and who can stay calm and cheerful when a hot tub decides to malfunction at 1pm on a Saturday.
If you love hospitality, take pride in well-run spaces, and like the variety of a job that has you driving across the Bay (Marin to San Jose) solving real problems, this role is for you.
This is a Thursday–Tuesday, 11am–5pm role with a genuinely protected day off and rare after-hours work (paid separately when it happens). Burnout is the enemy of hospitality — we built this schedule so being a great host doesn't mean being on call 24/7.
About StayWithGk
StayWithGk is a boutique short-term rental management company. We manage homes on behalf of property owners across the Bay Area — handling everything from listing and marketing to guest experience, cleaning, and maintenance, so owners can enjoy their homes as investments without any of the day-to-day work.
We're a small, hands-on team. We pride ourselves on five-star reviews, calm operations, and treating every property like it's our own. The person we hire will be central to delivering on that promise every single day.
The Role
As our Short-Term Rental Manager, you are the face and feet of StayWithGK in the field. You're the first responder when something goes sideways at one of our properties, the runner who shows up with whatever the home or guest needs, and the on-the-ground partner to our cleaners, handymen, and other vendors.
You won't be doing this alone. Our messaging team handles guest communication and inquiries; our admin team handles owner reporting, financials, and back-office. You get to focus on what you love: the properties and the people in them.
If a guest calls about a broken AC, you don't just relay the message — you're the person who shows up, diagnoses the issue, calls the right vendor, lets them in, follows up, and confirms it's fixed before the next guest arrives.
What You'll Do
Guest Experience & First Response
- Be the first responder for any in-person guest issue during your shift — lockouts, appliance malfunctions, missing supplies, noise, parking, you name it.
- Coordinate with the messaging team to triage incoming guest issues and decide what needs an in-person visit versus a remote fix.
- Conduct property visits as needed to greet VIP guests, troubleshoot in person, or smooth over service hiccups.
- Recover service issues thoughtfully — a small bottle of wine, a sincere apology, and a fast fix turns a 3-star moment into a 5-star review. You'll have the authority and the budget to make things right.
Property Runner & Field Operations
- Restock and replenish consumables (toiletries, paper goods, kitchen basics, linens) and keep on top of par levels at each property.
- Inspect properties between turnovers as needed — quality-check cleans, catch wear-and-tear early, photograph anything that needs follow-up.
- Handle small fixes yourself when reasonable — replacing batteries, light bulbs, smoke alarm chirps, resetting routers, swapping linens, hanging a curtain rod, tightening a loose handle.
- Run errands for replacement items, supplies, packages, lost-and-found returns, dry cleaning of linens, etc.
- Manage keys, lockboxes, and access — ensuring codes work, batteries are fresh, smart locks are paired, and backup access is reliable.
Vendor & Service Coordination
- Coordinate with our cleaning teams on schedules, special requests, owner stays, and quality issues — you'll be their primary day-to-day point of contact.
- Dispatch maintenance vendors (plumbers, electricians, HVAC, handymen, pest control) — meeting them on-site when needed, vetting their work, approving invoices within your authority.
- Build and maintain a strong roster of reliable, fairly priced local vendors. Help us source new ones when we need to fill a gap.
- Track work and follow through — a job isn't done until it's verified done, photographed if relevant, and the property is guest-ready again.
Property Care & Quality Standards
- Conduct regular quality walkthroughs of each property and flag anything that's off — staging, decor, deep-cleaning needs, deferred maintenance.
- Own the property checklist and proactively schedule preventive work (filter changes, deep cleans, pressure washing, gutters, recaulking, etc.) in coordination with our admin team.
- Manage inventory and amenities — linens, kitchenware, decor — and make small upgrades as the budget allows.
- Document everything — photos, vendor receipts, issue logs — so the rest of the team has full visibility. Your ability to stay organized saves time and headaches down the line.
Owner & Team Collaboration
- Brief the messaging team on property quirks, ongoing issues, and any vendor work in progress.
- Provide field intel to the admin team for owner reports — what was fixed, what's been noticed, what's coming up.
- Occasionally meet with property owners (usually when GK is also there) for walkthroughs, check-ins, or onboarding new homes.
Schedule & Coverage Model
This is a Thursday through Tuesday role, 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Wednesdays are off.
Here's how that fits into our broader operations:
- During your shift, you are our primary in-person responder for the portfolio.
- Our messaging team handles all guest communication around the clock — including before 10 AM, after 4 PM, on Sundays, and overnight. They will not route routine issues to you outside of your hours.
- If a true emergency happens outside your hours (active flood, fire, security incident, total loss of access for a guest checking in), our messaging team will reach you. These should be rare. Time spent on after-hours emergencies is compensated on top of your base pay.
- Wednesdays are protected. We use a backup contact for any urgent Wednesday situations.
- The 11 AM start gives you a buffer after standard 10 AM checkouts to catch turnover issues; the 5 PM end allows you to resolve any first-hour guest issues.
We have intentionally designed this schedule so that being a great host doesn't have to mean being on call 24/7. Burnout is the enemy of hospitality — we want you fresh, responsive, and excited to be at work.
Location & Travel
Our portfolio is concentrated in San Francisco and on the Peninsula, with a small number of properties in adjacent areas. You'll need to be comfortable driving to any of them on any given day.
- Where you should live: San Francisco or anywhere on the Peninsula (Daly City through San Mateo / Redwood City) is ideal. Other Bay Area locations are workable if you're comfortable with the commute and travel.
- Vehicle: We provide a company vehicle, fully insured, for use during your shift. Fuel and maintenance are covered.
- Driving record: A valid California driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $55,000 – $65,000 per year, depending on experience.
- Performance bonus: Quarterly bonus tied to portfolio review scores, owner satisfaction, and operational KPIs (typical target: 5-10% of base — for example, a 7% bonus on a $60,000 base works out to roughly $1,050 per quarter at target).
- Health insurance stipend: Monthly stipend toward the health insurance plan of your choice.
- Paid time off: Generous PTO including vacation, sick, and major holidays.
- Phone & tech stipend: Company cell phone provided.
- Company vehicle: Provided for all shift-related driving. Fuel and maintenance covered.
- Comp time / overtime: Overtime should be rare. In cases where you work more than 40 hours in a week, you will be paid according to standard overtime pay rules in California.
- Growth: We're growing. The right person here can grow with us — into operations leadership, new market expansion, or a player-coach role as we add field staff.
Who We're Looking For
We're open on background — what matters most is the kind of person you are and the way you work. That said, here's what we expect:
Required
- Hospitality mindset. You take real pride in hosting, in spaces being right, in guests feeling cared for. You've worked in hotels, restaurants, vacation rentals, customer service, or a related field where treating people well was the whole job.
- Reliable and accountable. If you say you'll be there at 11, you're there at 10:55. If something doesn't get done, you tell us before we ask.
- Calm under pressure. When a guest is frustrated, you don't take it personally. You listen, fix it, and move on.
- Hands-on and resourceful. You're not afraid to flip a breaker, climb a step ladder, plunge a toilet, or improvise a fix while a real solution is on the way.
- Smartphone-fluent. Comfortable with apps, smart locks, messaging tools, photo documentation, simple property management software. We use modern tools and you should be excited to use them.
- Strong written and verbal English. Clear, kind communication is core to everything we do.
- Valid California driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Physically able to lift up to 40 lbs, climb stairs, occasionally move furniture, and be on your feet for portions of the day.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
Bonus Points
- Prior experience with Airbnb, Vrbo, or short-term rentals (as a host, cleaner, manager, or operations role).
- Hotel front-desk, concierge, housekeeping, or boutique .
- Basic handyman , light electrical, drywall patching, hanging things, simple appliance troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with the geography of SF and the Peninsula.
- Spanish or another second language.
- Past experience coordinating with vendors or trades.
You'll Thrive Here If You...
- Genuinely like making other people's days better.
- Get satisfaction from a clean, well-stocked property and a happy 5-star guest.
- Like variety — no two days will look the same.
- Are independent and self-directed — most days you'll be in the field, not at a desk.
- Enjoy a small, fast-moving team where your work is visible and your input matters.
- Take feedback well and want to keep getting better at your craft.
This Role Is Probably Not For You If...
- You want a desk job with a fixed daily routine.
- Driving across the Bay Area as part of your day sounds exhausting rather than energizing.
- You don't enjoy interacting with guests or being patient with their problems.
- You're hoping for fully remote work — this is a field-based, in-person role.
What We'll Provide
- Company vehicle (insured, fuel and maintenance covered).
- Company phone.
- Monthly health insurance stipend.
- Access to all property management software, smart-lock systems, and vendor tools.
- A working float for emergency supplies, vendor cash payments, and guest recovery gestures.
- A clear playbook and onboarding period — you won't be thrown in cold.
- Ongoing partnership with the messaging team and admin team so you're never the only one who knows what's going on.
