Full Job Description

Overview
The Specimen Collector plays a vital role in the healthcare system by ensuring the accurate and efficient collection of biological samples from patients. This position requires a keen attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and a solid understanding of laboratory procedures. The Specimen Collector will work closely with patients to provide exceptional service while adhering to strict safety and quality standards.

Duties

Collect blood samples and urine specimens from patients using aseptic techniques.
Perform phlebotomy procedures while ensuring patient comfort and safety.
Record vital signs and maintain accurate documentation of patient information.
Assist in the preparation and transportation of specimens to the laboratory for analysis.
Adhere to hospital protocols and laboratory procedures to ensure compliance with health regulations.
Provide excellent patient service by addressing concerns and answering questions regarding specimen collection.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the collection area, ensuring all equipment is properly sterilized and ready for use.

Skills

Proficient in phlebotomy techniques and blood sampling procedures.
Knowledge of laboratory procedures, including specimen handling and processing.
Ability to accurately measure and record vital signs.
Strong patient care skills with a focus on providing compassionate service.
Understanding of physiology and anatomy to effectively locate veins for blood draws.
Familiarity with aseptic techniques to prevent contamination during specimen collection.
Excellent communication skills to interact positively with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
