Full Job Description

You're uniquely independent, and with that mindset, you don't want a boss — you want to be in control of your own destiny. But building that kind of independence usually requires a huge outlay of cash.

If you're mechanically sound and have great communication skills, we may want to invest in you.

We're looking for one — and only one — individual in Richmond to become a Managing Partner for Gaskets Rock International. Unlike our competitors, we won't ask for any upfront fee to earn this role. We will ask for your time investment, along with some modest expenses, to get you positioned to succeed like our Managing Partners from coast to coast.

We're the best at what we do, and the 40,000 customers we serve across the U.S. are proof of it — including hundreds of active accounts already in the Richmond market. You're stepping into a territory with momentum, not starting from a blank map.

This is a 1099 business. You own the route, you keep a strong commission on everything you sell and install, and there's no cap on what you can earn. No franchise fees, no royalties.

What the work actually is: You'll measure commercial kitchen equipment for a custom-made gasket, quote the job, and close the sale. GRI custom-manufactures the gasket to that exact measurement, and you go back out and install it yourself — making sure every door seals properly before you leave. It's straightforward work, but it takes a knack for problem-solving: every door and unit is a little different, it can get messy, and you'll spend real time squatting and bending to get the fit right. Gaskets wear out over time, no matter how well they're installed, which means the same customers call you back again and again — that's where the repeat business comes from.

Training: Three weeks total: technical training at our Pittsburgh, PA headquarters, field training in Phoenix, AZ, then your third week is in your own Richmond territory working alongside a trainer — no travel required for that one. There's no training fee, but you're responsible for your own travel (flights or driving) and lodging for the Pittsburgh and Phoenix weeks. Once you're out in the field, you're not on your own — ongoing support is part of the deal.

On the ramp-up: Richmond is a real business with real cash flow — this isn't a dead-zone startup. That said, expect your first stretch to be a learning curve: you're getting fluent in the technical side, and our clients run on Net30 terms, so commission follows about a month behind the sale. It builds fast once you're up to speed — MPs doing well here bring in $30K–$50K in monthly sales — but month one won't look like month six.

Who does well here: People who are genuinely good with their hands and comfortable troubleshooting mechanical problems — not just "handy," but the kind of person who likes figuring out why something isn't working. People who can build a quote and close a sale without hand-holding. And people who come in financially stable enough to cover training travel, your tools and starter gear, uniforms, and a tablet, smartphone, and computer — plus enough cushion to ride out that first learning-curve stretch before the route hits its stride. This isn't a fit for someone who needs income on day one.

Best fit: field/facilities/trades background, commission or B2B sales experience, service business ownership, or territory management.
