Full Job Description

Dental Assistant Manager

High Point Dentistry is looking for an experienced, motivated, and dependable Lead Dental Assistant to help lead our dental assisting team and support the efficient operation of the practice.

This is more than a clinical position. The Lead Dental Assistant is responsible for team leadership, training, scheduling, clinical support, inventory, compliance, and maintaining high standards of patient care. The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, confident, and comfortable taking ownership and holding others accountable.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management

Lead, mentor, train, and hold dental assistants accountable to practice standards.
Delegate daily responsibilities based on patient flow, staffing, and team strengths.
Set a positive, professional tone and actively participate in morning huddles.
Address performance concerns and escalate issues to management when appropriate.
Provide regular updates to leadership regarding team progress, challenges, and needs.

Scheduling & Operations

Create and manage assistant schedules approximately two weeks in advance.
Maintain appropriate staffing while working toward established labor-cost goals.
Adjust staffing based on patient volume and daily needs.
Keep assistants productive during downtime through tasks such as Done Desk assignments, room organization, sterilization, maintenance, and recall/unscheduled patient outreach.

Clinical & Patient Care

Work in a doctor's schedule regularly and provide clinical support as needed.
Cover staffing gaps and assist providers when needed.
Support a positive and professional patient experience.
Ensure clinical documentation, doctor notes, treatment procedures, and lab cases are completed accurately and timely.

Inventory & Compliance

Oversee monthly supply ordering, inventory levels, stocking, and organization.
Monitor supply costs and minimize emergency orders or borrowing.
Ensure compliance with infection control, OSHA, HIPAA, and clinical protocols.
Maintain required licensing and training requirements and hold the team accountable to the same standards.

Training & Development

Train and onboard new dental assistants using established training tools and checklists.
Conduct regular feedback meetings with new hires and providers.
Complete 90-day and annual reviews on time.
Perform periodic audits to ensure protocols and standards are being followed.
Participate in continuing education and the practice's annual Personal Development Days.

Communication & Culture

Maintain strong communication between assistants, providers, hygiene, front office, and leadership.
Regularly check in with team members regarding morale, engagement, and concerns.
Identify problems early and help implement solutions.
Lead by example through professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
