Full Job Description

Hephzibah Children's Association is a non-profit social service agency located in Oak Park, IL.

The agency offers a variety of programs including residential programs for young children, foster care, intact, and family/parenting programs, and after school and summer care for elementary aged children.

The Therapist is a mental health professional who uses trauma-focused treatment to improve and enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of children in the Foster Care and/or Residential Treatment Programs. The Therapist is responsible for assessing, developing, coordinating, and administering therapy services to individuals, families and groups of children who have been negatively impacted by traumatic experiences. The therapist will learn and utilize therapy modalities consistent with Hephzibah’s treatment framework and methodology.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary

Facilitate individual, family or group therapy sessions appropriate to the unique needs of each client.
Work collaboratively with the program’s multidisciplinary team to identify client needs for those who will receive therapy services.
Complete required program assessments for each client at their respective intervals, and compile/enter data into data tracking sheets.
Complete therapy notes within 1 week of each therapy session, documenting the children’s progress according to Medicaid Rule 132/140.
Prepare written Medicaid documentation; IM-CANS and develop a treatment plan with therapeutic goals relevant to the client’s mental health diagnosis.
Prepare written quarterly reports, and reports as needed for court, of the client’s progress while engaged in therapeutic services.
Communicate with internal or external providers regarding the children and family’s needs and progression of treatment.
Participate in clinical staffing’s, child and family team meetings and work as part of the multidisciplinary team.
May or may not contribute to the development or enhancement of the on-call crisis support program, clinical training, and vicarious trauma support.
Serve on a Quality Improvement Process Team and Clinical Club/Committee.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor

Professional Development

Keep Clinical Coordinator informed of professional growth needs and programming needs.
Understand and convey the work of the agency to the community.
Participate in ongoing training to keep professional skills current, including TF-CBT, ARC, and Mindfulness based training.
Participate in weekly supervision with the Clinical Coordinator.
May help supervise therapy interns.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or related field from an accredited college or university.
Must hold a clinical license (LCSW, LCPC, LMFT) preferred or be actively working toward licensure, with the expectation to obtain licensure within 6 to 12 months of hire.
Minimum of 1–2 years of experience working with children preferred, especially in residential, foster care, community mental health, child welfare, or school-based settings.
Previous experience providing trauma-informed clinical care to youth and families preferred.
Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills, ability to work independently, and ability to work effectively with children, parents, staff, interns, oversight agencies and the public.
Must be willing to work flexible hours and be willing to do home visits in the nearby and surrounding communities.
Must have a valid Illinois driver license and access to a car that can be used for services to clients.
Sensitivity and responsiveness to the cultural differences in the staff and client populations.
Commitment to antiracist, anti-oppressive, and self-reflective practice.
