Staff Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Practice Administrator
GENERAL SUMMARY
Performs duties and assists physicians and staff as part of the practice care team with daily coordination of patient care that facilitates care and physician access. Functions as primary liaison among patients, staff, and physician. Primary support person for the physicians. Involves both floor work and administrative work. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greets patients and parents in polite, prompt manner and provides directions and information as needed.
- Ensures timely and efficient patient flow
- Answers phones as needed, returns patient calls for advise promptly and does patient outreach as requested
- Documents immunizations in Medent as per vaccination policy.
- Maintains and reviews patient electronic records and other pertinent health information.
- Adheres to infection control and safety policies. Maintains equipment, instruments, and stock supplies.
- Documents all patient interventions per documentation policy.
- Coordinates patients' appointments; relays necessary information to staff and physicians. Follows up on missed or cancelled appointments and unscheduled referrals
- Performs nursing duties, including history and physical examination, vital signs, injections and immunizations, and other duties as required.
- Assists in minor office procedures, such as removing sutures as designated by physician, and obtaining specimens and processing accordingly.
- Administers nebulizer treatments and other therapeutic injections. Performs pulmonary function testing.
- Maintains examination rooms and ensures cleanliness. Prepares equipment for treatment.
- Assists clerical staff by providing clinical information needed when they are scheduling tests or treatments at other facilities.
- Communicates test results to patients and physicians.
- Ensures appointment preferences are given to patients in emergent or urgent situations. Triages phone calls for same day appointments when necessary.
- Follows pediatric telephone protocols and documentation per triage policy, and documentation of patient health data per electronic medical record (EMR) policy.
- Processes laboratory specimens according to laboratory procedure manual.
- Instructs patient and family on medications and treatment according to pediatric standards.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives as part of the practice care team.
- Takes part in daily team huddles and/or other team meetings to facilitate communication and enhance positive patient experiences and quality delivery of care.
- Job duties include exposure to blood and bodily fluids; employee to
use protective equipment as designated (see exposure policy).
- Vaccine ordering and reporting to NYS
- Maintain all aspects of vaccines ensuring up-to-date knowledge of current vaccines used in the office and VIS documents.
- Maintains communications with NYSIIS/Medent for vaccines
- Ordering of informational pamphlets for patients and copying of other handouts as necessary
- Preparation of transfers for medical records per physician/office policies
- Completing patient forms for physician’s signature
- Maintains communications with drug/hospital/radiology reps
- Maintains nurses' documents, licenses, PPD's, vaccines, CPR certification.
- Maintains scale equipment
- Other miscellaneous duties as my be required as part of the care team in a small practice
- Ability to process information congruent with nursing knowledge base.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic and numeric systems. Ability to deal courteously with patients, coworkers, and insurance personnel. Ability to operate a telephone system and use appropriate telephone etiquette.
- General knowledge of standard office equipment such as computers, fax machine, and photocopier.
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to hear sounds concisely. Ability to employ good organizational skills with attention to detail. Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, doctors, patients, and the public.
- Ability to represent the practice in a courteous and professional manner
- Knowledge of medical terminology; demonstrated efficiency in Medent computer systems.
EDUCATION:LPN degree
Knowledge of government, legal, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act guidelines related to patient and confidentiality information.
EXPERIENCE: Triage experience helpful. Must have good telephone etiquette.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION: New York State nursing license; maintain up-to-date knowledge of American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations relative to pediatric patient care.

Pay: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
