Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Bookkeeper and Payroll Specialist to join our team. In this vital role, you will manage comprehensive bookkeeping functions, ensure accurate payroll processing, and maintain precise financial records. Your expertise will support our organization’s financial health, compliance with accounting standards, and smooth operational flow. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organization while honing your skills in diverse accounting systems and financial concepts.

Responsibilities

Maintain and update the general ledger using accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms.
Process payroll accurately and efficiently, ensuring compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations.
Reconcile bank statements, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and other account balances regularly to ensure data integrity.
Prepare journal entries, perform balance sheet reconciliation, and analyze account activity for accuracy.
Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice processing and vendor payments.
Ensure adherence to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other applicable accounting standards in all financial activities.
Generate detailed financial reports, including budget analysis, financial statements, and audit documentation as needed.
Conduct governmental or non-profit accounting tasks when applicable, ensuring compliance with specific regulations.
Assist with tax preparation activities and maintain accurate records for tax filings.
Support budgeting processes by analyzing financial data and preparing relevant documentation.
Utilize spreadsheets and other financial software tools to streamline bookkeeping operations and improve efficiency.

Experience

Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or Payroll Specialist with a strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping principles.
Demonstrated proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks (including QuickBooks Online).
Experience with payroll processing, including tax calculations and compliance requirements.
Knowledge of corporate accounting practices; work with CPA's
Familiarity with financial concepts such as debits & credits, journal entries, account reconciliation, and general ledger management.
Strong skills in spreadsheets (Excel or equivalent), 10-key typing for data entry accuracy, and bank reconciliation procedures.
Ability to interpret financial reports accurately and communicate findings clearly.
Prior experience working within public accounting or in roles requiring adherence to strict accounting standards like GAAP is highly desirable.
