Highlands Oncology began in 1996 with three physicians and a desire to change the face of oncology care in our community. Dr. Malcolm Hayward, Dr. Dan Bradford, and Dr. Thad Beck knew that patients do better at home, in the community where they live and work, and where their support system is already in place. In furthering that goal, Highlands has grown with the region from a single location 26 years ago, to 6 locations in Northwest and Northcentral Arkansas today employing more than 800 diverse team members.

What we have is something quite unique right here in our own backyard with a caring multidisciplinary team focused on treating patients like family.

Job Summary: This role offers a unique opportunity to guide and support patients through their lung cancer screening journey, ensuring they receive compassionate care and clear communication. Facilitate one-on-one education visits with each LCSP participant, as well as communicating lung cancer screening results to refer to doctors and patients. Ensures the effective and efficient delivery of quality health care.

Job Duties / Responsibilities:

One-on-one education visits with participants.
Guide and support patients through their lung cancer screening journey
Responsible for obtaining orders and scheduling diagnostic low dose CT’s
Prepare LDCT results to be reviewed during the weekly Center for Chest Care conference.
Must maintain good working relationships with internal and external staff
May need to complete the needed training and certifications to act as Research Study Coordinator for LCSP trials, as needed.
Encourage tobacco cessation certification to provide smoking cessation visits to LCSP participants.
Communicate abnormal lung screening results to patients and referring provider and ensure the plan of care is carried out.
Attend and take notes during the first portion of the weekly The Center for Chest Care conference to review weekly lung cancer screening CT’s.
Assist with portion of pre-certification of low-dose CT’s
May Assist with updating patient data in tracking software
Must work well independently and as a team member
Other tasks as assigned by supervisor

Required Skills/Abilities:

Open to a Medical Assistant or other applicant with at least 2 years of Oncology, Pulmonary Medicine or Primary Care experience.
Desire to teach and educate patients, including communicating medical test results to patients
Exceptional customer service
Excellent communication skills
Proficient computer skills
Must work well independently and as a team member

Certifications/Licenses/Education/or Experience in a related field:

Licensed Professional Nurse or Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program preferred.
Patient care experience preferred.
At least two years of oncology, cardiovascular or pulmonary experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Standing and Walking: Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
Sitting for prolonged periods of time at a desk.
Computer use that requires visual acuity, typing, use of mouse/keyboard, and staring at a screen for extended periods of time.
Lifting and moving patients: Ability to lift, move, and assist patients, often requiring more than 50 pounds.
Pushing and Pulling: Must be able to push and maneuver equipment and patient transport devices.
Fine Motor Skills: Requires good hand-eye coordination to operate controls and handle small objects.
Repetitive Motions: Frequent use of hand and fingers for operating machinery and adjusting settings.
Bending and Reaching: Must bend, stoop, twist, and reach to position patients and operate equipment
