Inside Sales Representative - Automatic Pedestrian Doors
Headquarters Location:
958 Corporate Blvd, Aurora, IL 60502
Great salespeople aren't defined solely by the products they've sold. At Tee Jay Service Company, we're looking for an Inside Sales Representative who is dependable, organized, enjoys solving problems, and wants to build lasting customer relationships. In this role, you'll prepare quotations, coordinate projects, and work closely with customers and an experienced team to deliver commercial automatic pedestrian door solutions throughout Northern Illinois.
We value industry experience, but we also believe character, curiosity, and a willingness to learn are just as important. If you're looking for a place where you can build a long-term career while continuing to grow professionally, we'd love to meet you.
Responsibilities
- Customer Communication & Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with customers by serving as a trusted and dependable point of contact. Take the time to understand each customer's needs, communicate honestly and proactively, provide timely updates, answer questions, and consistently follow through on commitments. The strongest relationships are built through professionalism, reliability, and a genuine commitment to helping customers find the right solution.
- Estimating & Quotation Development: Prepare accurate, well-organized quotations for automatic pedestrian door equipment, repairs, service recommendations, and related products by evaluating customer requests, field information, drawings, specifications, and project requirements. Successful estimating at Tee Jay involves more than simply generating quotes. It requires developing a strong understanding of our products and applications, evaluating available solutions, and recommending the option that best fits each customer's needs. Every quotation should reflect attention to detail, sound judgment, and accuracy because the quality of your work directly impacts our customers and the successful execution of each project.
- Project Coordination & Team Collaboration: Work as an integral member of your assigned territory team by collaborating closely with your Outside Sales Representative, Production Manager, Service Technicians, and other internal departments to help move projects from the initial opportunity through successful completion. Coordinate project details, communicate proactively, and ensure important information is shared accurately and promptly with customers and coworkers throughout the process. Success in this role requires taking ownership of your work while recognizing that every project depends on teamwork, accountability, and a willingness to support one another.
- Organization, Prioritization & Follow-Through: Manage multiple quotations, customer requests, active projects, and competing priorities while maintaining exceptional organization and attention to detail. Keep accurate and well-organized project documentation, including contracts, correspondence, drawings, and other supporting records, so both you and your teammates have the information needed to successfully manage each project. Prioritize your work, follow through on commitments, and create dependable systems that keep projects moving forward and ensure important details don't fall through the cracks. The strongest performers recognize that organization is about more than keeping records. It's about creating a dependable process that allows customers and coworkers to quickly find the information they need, move projects forward with confidence, and maintain continuity when responsibilities are shared or someone else needs to step in.
- Industry Knowledge & Continuous Learning: Develop a strong understanding of automatic pedestrian door systems, products, applications, and industry standards through hands-on experience, training, and collaboration with experienced teammates. Be curious, ask questions, and take initiative to expand your technical knowledge and problem-solving abilities. As your knowledge grows, apply it to make informed recommendations and support customers with confidence. The most successful employees embrace continuous learning and recognize that becoming an expert is an ongoing process, not a one-time achievement.
- Business Development & Territory Growth: Contribute to the long-term success of your assigned territory by strengthening customer relationships and identifying opportunities to grow the business. While much of our work comes from the strong relationships and reputation Tee Jay has built, we believe there is always room to better serve our customers and uncover new opportunities. Stay engaged with your customers, look beyond the immediate request, and work closely with your Outside Sales Representative to identify additional ways Tee Jay can provide value. The strongest performers don't simply respond to opportunities. They actively look for ways to strengthen customer relationships and help grow their territory.
Preferred Skills & Background
- Customer Service & Relationship Building: Experience building strong customer relationships through responsive communication, problem solving, and professional service. You understand the importance of earning trust, managing expectations, and creating positive customer experiences that lead to long-term partnerships.
- Sales, Estimating & Customer Project Coordination: Previous experience in sales, estimating, project coordination, account management, or a similar role is beneficial. Managing multiple projects, preparing quotations, coordinating with internal teams, and supporting customers throughout the lifecycle of a project will help you transition successfully into this role.
- Construction & Building Products: Experience within the construction industry, commercial building products, automatic doors, hollow metal doors and frames, hardware, or other related industries is helpful, but not required. Candidates with experience working in technical or construction-related environments often adapt quickly to the products and services we provide.
- Technical Curiosity & Mechanical Aptitude: You enjoy understanding how things work and aren't afraid to learn technical products or systems. While prior automatic pedestrian door experience is not expected, curiosity, mechanical aptitude, and a willingness to learn will help you succeed in this role.
- Technology & Business Software: Experience with Microsoft Office, ERP systems, CRM platforms, or similar software is beneficial, along with the ability to quickly learn and effectively use new technology.
- Communication & Organization: Strong written and verbal communication skills, effective time management, and the ability to stay organized while managing multiple priorities are valuable strengths. Success in this role comes from communicating clearly, staying ahead of deadlines, and maintaining accurate project information.
Don't meet every qualification? We still encourage you to apply. We value transferable skills, a willingness to learn, and the right attitude just as much as direct industry experience.

Chances are you've used the types of automatic doors we work on every day, whether entering a hospital, grocery store, office building, retail store, or countless local businesses.
Our industry is highly specialized, and that's one of the things we enjoy most about it. Our job is to make sure they open safely, reliably, and consistently every day. A large part of what we do helps provide safe, reliable, and accessible entrances for people of all abilities. We take pride in doing quality work, building lasting customer relationships, and protecting the reputation Tee Jay has built over the past 60 years.
