Independent Living Educator/Job Coach

About Us

Rogers' Consulting and Management (RCM) is an Independent Living Services agency dedicated to improving the quality of life for adults with developmental disabilities.

We support individuals and families across the Antelope Valley, Santa Clarita, and San Fernando Valley through person-centered planning, advocacy, education, and community-based support services.

Our mission is to promote independence, self-determination, and meaningful participation in home, work, and community life.

Position Summary

The Independent Living Educator provides direct support services to individuals with developmental disabilities in home and community environments. This role implements Individual Service Plans (ISPs), supports independent living skill development, and assists clients in accessing community resources and services.

The position includes direct care, coaching, documentation, assessment participation, and community resource coordination to support individuals in achieving personal, educational, and employment goals.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Support & Independent Living Skills

Follow Individual Service Plans (ISP) and support clients in achieving personal goals
Provide training and support in daily living skills, including:

- Meal planning, cooking, and nutrition

- Money management and budgeting

- Home organization, cleaning, and safety

- Personal hygiene and self-care (as applicable)

Support community participation, hobbies, and social engagement
Assist with scheduling and attending medical, dental, and mental health appointments
Provide medication reminders when applicable
Support development of work readiness and job coaching skills

Community Resource Navigation & Advocacy

Assist clients in accessing community resources including, SSI, CalFresh, IHSS, DPSS
Housing assistance and low-income programs
Mental health, healthcare, and transportation services
Support clients in navigating complex service systems and completing applications
Identify and address barriers to community access (transportation, communication, etc.)
Advocate on behalf of clients to ensure equitable access to services
Support referrals to appropriate agencies and community programs

Assessment & Case Management Support

Participate in client assessments, planning, and evaluation processes
Assist in identifying client strengths, needs, and barriers
Support development of individualized goals and service plans
Maintain accurate progress notes and data tracking for assigned clients
Monitor and document client progress toward independent living goals
Report incidents in accordance with agency policy and applicable regulations

Documentation & Administrative Duties

Complete daily progress notes and required documentation after each shift
Prepare and format documents, reports, and templates
Support file management (PDF conversion, merging, splitting, etc.)
Respond to emails and phone calls professionally and in a timely manner

Community Engagement & Outreach

Participate in community activities and resource coordination efforts
Support connection to employers, training programs, and community partners (as applicable)
Assist in identifying opportunities for client engagement and community integration

QualificationsExperience

Minimum 2 years of verifiable experience providing direct care services to individuals with developmental disabilities

Education

High School Diploma required
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred (experience may substitute for education)

Skills & Abilities

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with clients
Emotional intelligence and professional judgment in client interactions
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities
Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email systems)
Ability to maintain accurate documentation and follow structured service plans

Knowledge

Understanding of developmental disabilities and Regional Center service systems
Knowledge of community resources in the Antelope Valley and surrounding areas
Familiarity with social service programs such as SSI, IHSS, CalFresh, and DPSS

Requirements

Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation with insurance
Smartphone required
Access to computer/laptop with camera and internet for documentation and training
Ability to pass background check, TB test, and health screening
Valid First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
Flexible schedule, including possible evenings or weekends
Strong English reading, writing, and communication skills
