Full Job Description

Dr. Yula Indeyeva is an established Double-Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon focusing on facial rejuvenation surgery. We are looking for a Full-Time or Part-Time Surgical Nurse to join our thriving Plastic Surgery practice. This is a dual role involving work in the Operating Room as well as Clinic.

We are looking for a motivated individual with a pleasant personality, strong work ethic, and exceptional organizational skills. We are a rapidly growing, fast-paced office and we have a desire to build and develop one of the best places to work. This is a fulfilling position for a motivated, industrious individual to take on a diverse set of skills and settings. During clinic days, position will be involving clinical patient encounters, such as post-operative visits, removing dressings/drains/sutures, teaching patient and caretaker about incision care and reviewing recovery expectations/instructions, assisting with hyperbaric oxygen chamber sessions, performing pre-operative visits, and assisting with injectable treatments and surgical consultations.

Applicant must be able to work well with others in a group or team, including physicians, patients, other staff and the public. Requires critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Prefer 1-2 years of ICU and/or Operating Room experience, but willing to train the right candidate.

Job Responsibilities:

-Prepare surgical room for surgical procedures, following sterile protocol

-Maintain a sterile environment in the operating room by following proper infection control protocols.

- Assist the needs of the surgeon before/during procedure, focusing on learning surgeon techniques/requirements and anticipating them in the future

- Assist with application of dressings and transportation of patients

- Assist in OR case turnover

- Maintain awareness of safety hazards and proper usage of various equipment to prevent damage or harm to staff and patients

- Routine weekly maintenance of OR equipment (OR table, lights, autoclave).

- Re-stock used supplies.

- Knowledge of decontamination and sterilization process is essential for this position. Must be familiar with operating a Steam Autoclave.

- Take necessary precautions in handling potentially infectious waste and its disposal. Maintain proper containers for sharps (i.e. knife blades, needles, syringes, etc.).

- Coordinate with the OR staff in anticipating the caseloads of the OR schedule in completing and sterilizing instrument sets for each case.

- Maintain consistent inventory levels of necessary surgical supplies, including: sutures, dressings, packs, surgical instruments, implants, etc.

- Create, maintain and update surgical preference cards for ALL surgeons credentialed at Inspire Surgery Center. Ensuring that all preference cards are reviewed at least annually by yourself, surgeons, and OR Charge nurse to ensure that all are correct.

- Pre-op, OR circulation, and immediate post-op recovery of patients

- Placing IVs

- Mental ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and to cope with and function effectively during stressful/emergency situations

- Ability to assess patients’ clinical condition; recognize serious situations and act accordingly in response.

- Ability to remain calm, polite, and positive with others when under pressure

- Perform Pre-Operative H&P Visits independent of Dr. Indeyeva, including calling in all necessary medications, reviewing surgical procedures, and recovery process.

- Perform Post-Operative Visits at various stages and address patient issues/concerns as needed. Close communication with Dr. Indeyeva will be expected to ensure that appropriate plan is employed.

- Respond to patient calls/emails regarding post-procedural/recovery-related questions, and pre-operative questions. Weekend/afterhours responsibilities on a rotating basis

- Perform surgical wound/incision care with emphasis on demonstrating/teaching the process to patients and their caretakers

- Remove sutures, staples, and drains post-operatively

- Troubleshoot and address patient post-operative/post procedural issues independent of Dr. Indeyeva but in close communication to ensure that appropriate plan is employed.

- Interview new consult patients, collecting detailed past medical/surgical history and documenting within the electronic medical record. Obtain a list of their concerns and what they would like addressed.

- Be able to provide an overview of Dr. Indeyeva’s ideology and patient-centered approach, as well as pertinent points surrounding surgery scheduling process, post-operative care, etc. This will serve as a base of knowledge and preview of their conversation with Dr. Indeyeva

- Assist Dr. Indeyeva with aesthetic and surgical procedures (OR and under local anesthesia) as needed

- Provide physician instructions to patients and ensuring they have all needed prescriptions and orders provided by the physician

- Reconstitute and prepare injectables

- Obtain standardized patient photos and updating them onto the server

- Clean and prepare patient exam rooms for new patients and turn over rooms

- Assist with obtaining lab results, EKG, medical clearance, and any other required information prior to surgery

- Conduct Hyperbaric Oxygen treatments with our in-house chamber. Completing pre-procedure checklist and supporting the patient through treatment
