Meds & Food for Kids – Staff Accountant

Position Summary

An international, growing humanitarian NGO seeks an experienced Staff Accountant. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting reporting and compliance requirements, assisting with budgeting and audits, and providing administrative support to organizational initiatives as needed. This position reports to the Finance Manager and collaborates closely with department heads.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations

Record day-to-day financial transactions in QuickBooks, including vendor invoices, payments, and deposits.
Partner with the Finance Manager to refine month-end close processes, contributing insights to streamline account reconciliations.
Support accounts payable processes and vendor communications.
Contribute to grant and donor revenue tracking, developing a functional understanding of fiscal compliance and reporting.
Support audit preparations by proactively organizing documentation and improving retrieval workflows.
Maintain organized financial files and documentation.

Compliance & Internal Controls

Ensure daily tasks align with organizational policies and standard accounting procedures.
Lead the optimization of electronic and physical filing systems to improve organization, accessibility, and security.

Strategic Support & Collaboration

Serve as a key administrative partner for the finance department, facilitating effective communication across departments.
Collaborate with department heads to provide financial data that supports informed operational decision-making.
Participate in cross-functional projects, focusing on process documentation, system refinement, and team continuity.

Qualifications

Experience in bookkeeping, accounting, finance, or administrative support roles.
Experience working with a small business, nonprofit, or NGO is preferred.
Proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel preferred.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with team members.

Education

A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field is required.

This job is a full-time position, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. This position is expected to be self-directed and to demonstrate leadership in office policies and protocols.

The position offers full health care benefits (medical, dental, and vision) and a 403 (b) with a 3% matching employer contribution. Paid time off includes 3 weeks of vacation plus five days of personal/sick leave.

You’ll join a highly collaborative team. The small office staff, located in St. Louis, provides fundraising, administrative, and accounting support to the larger operation in Haiti. You’ll interact remotely with our courageous and resilient managers and workforce in Cap-Haïtien.
