Full Job Description

Family Builders is a non-profit, licensed foster care and adoption agency, serving children in the foster care system. Family Builders believes that every child has the right to grow up in a permanent, nurturing family regardless of that child’s age, race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, or medical, physical or emotional condition. Family Builders’ mission is to:

- Advocate for systemic changes that instill hope, belonging, and inclusion for all children and the families who care for them and

- Advance best practices based on equity, justice and anti-racist and anti-oppressive policies in child welfare and juvenile justice systems.

SUMMARY:

The Social Worker will implement an innovative program model to provide family engagement, advocacy and support to families of LGBTQ and gender expansive youth in foster care and/or at risk of entering care.

The Social Worker will work (in both English and Spanish) with families and other caregivers of referred youth to build or rebuild relationships, educate and train, and provide other support as needed where there are challenges for family members in regards to the youth’s sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. The goal of the project is to achieve permanency for LGBTQ youth.

This position will provide these services to families throughout four counties: Marin, Sonoma, Solano, and Napa. 10-12 hours per week is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, counseling or a related field. Fluency in Spanish is required. Experience working with youth in the foster care system and comprehensive SOGIE knowledge and experience working with LGBTQ youth. Experience working with African American and Latino families and communities. Current Driver’s License and a working automobile are required. Willing to travel throughout the North Bay Area. Must be committed to the mission of the agency. LGBTQ individuals and people of color are encouraged to apply. The rate for this position is $54 per hour.
