Who is 1928 Planning Co?

1928 Planning Co. is one brand under the parent company: Sunset Coast Events. We are an event management company that provides multiple event- related services to venues and clients across Southwest Michigan. We offer event services like:

- Wedding and Private Event Coordination

- Corporate Event Coordination

- Management of Local Venues

- Decoration Rentals

- Lighting Design Services

- Event Logistics/Operations

What this position will offer you:

Direct client and guest interaction is one of the main roles of this position. We serve roughly 20,000 event attendees each year, so repeated interactions will expose you to building a strong set of service skills.
This position will put you in situations that no text book or desk job will teach you. You will resolve circumstances using critical thinking and lead solutions
This position gives you exposure to a variety of event types: weddings. private, corporate
There are so many avenues of an event that make it a success. We offer something unique where you’ll have exposure to several aspects of an event’s process from start to finish.
Time management, logistics operations, execution, and event organization will be strengthened through our typical 200 events each calendar year. This immersion will hone your organizational and time management skills.
Vendor relationship building: You will work with florists, caterers, dj’s, photographers, bartenders, and local public figures and non-profits etc. on a regular basis and will build lasting relationships with true professionals.
Event design experience: Partaking in regular set up and tear down of decoration.

No fear of rolling up the sleeves and working hard. The events industry is not glamorous all the time.

It takes an army to create an event, and this position is expected to work with other members of our team as one united front.

Professional hospitality industry experience is required for this position. We are looking for a candidate who understands industry demands, lingo, customer service expectations as they relate to events, and a common understanding of the work it takes for a successful event.

Additional Information:

This is a part-time, year-round role with even more hours available during our high event season May – October.

Shifts have the possibility of being scheduled all days of the week, but with most focus happening on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. While we can be flexible with available days per week, An expectation of working weekend hours and evenings is a must.

Location of shifts will commonly take place at venues/locations in Benton Harbor, St. Joseph, or Stevensville, Michigan. If we ask that you travel to additional venues, mileage reimbursement will be offered.

*Required to have reliable source of transportation to travel in local Southwest Michigan region.

Shift times will vary based on event circumstances.

Although start times of shift vary widely, most shifts average 7 – 9 hours in length
Hours may start as early as 8:00am and end as late as 1:00am.

Schedules are given a month in advance. You will be scheduled an average of 2-3 shifts per week, (potentially more at times) depending on event schedule. We work well with team members who balance this job with another commitment in requesting time off, or needing flexible hours.

Personal phone use required for this position.

Pay is dispersed bi-weekly.

Opportunity for occasional gratuity from clients served and mileage reimbursement when visiting alternate venues will be possible.

Position requires the ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds on a regular basis and ludes things like tables, chairs, dance floors, and decoration rental items dance floors, and decoration rental items.

Position Duties:

The position will expose you to duties among all avenues we service based on event schedule and your availability. This includes:

- Wedding and Private Event Coordination

- Corporate Event Coordination

It is required that those that accept this position understand the variety of work expected. Outlined duties are listed below.

Coordination Shifts

The hub of event information for the assigned venue, and acts as a source of answers for the client/couple, guests and vendors. You are one of the main contacts for all vendors that are onsite.

Leading the timeline for the vendors and the client, making sure the guest experience and vendor experience are both comfortable and happy throughout the course of the event.

Depending on the optional services the clients might elect with us, the coordinator may also partake in the additional duties: decoration setup or decoration clean up, ceremony assistance, placement of rental items, setting up of place-settings, etc.

Handle finishing touches as it relates to the overall presentation of the venue and in turn, our reputation for quality standards and a successful send off experience. o Examples: Assisting with the floorplan setup, cleanliness of venue grounds, table linens, vendor arrivals, last minute updates from client, etc.

Logistics shifts

Event logistics are the foundation for our events. It is this behind the scenes that sets the events up for success, either in the days leading up to, or following an event, or day of, before the guest appear on-site. Duties include: equipment setup (moving tables, chairs, dance floor), and its tear down by following venue floorplans and written checklists, taking care of the venue's presentation and cleanliness/tidiness, and assisting with decoration 1928 rental items.

Ability to repetitively move medium weight objects (tables, chairs, signs, lights, and 1928 rental furniture) is required, typically completed with another individual. We are seeking a candidate who can be comfortable with occasional performing duties on a ladder to install lighting.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 14 – 27 per week
