The General Manager is responsible for the overall performance of the restaurant, including guest satisfaction, team development, food quality, cleanliness, sales growth, cost control, staffing, training, and compliance. Key ResponsibilitiesRestaurant Leadership
- Lead, coach, and motivate the restaurant team to deliver excellent results.
- Create a positive work environment based on respect, accountability, teamwork, and guest service.
- Set clear expectations for managers, shift leaders, servers, cooks, hosts, dishwashers, and team members.
- Hold employees accountable to company standards, policies, and procedures.
- Develop Assistant Managers, Shift Leaders, and team members for future growth opportunities.
- Promote a professional, productive, and welcoming workplace culture.
Guest Service
- Ensure every guest receives friendly, attentive, accurate, and timely service.
- Respond quickly and professionally to guest questions, concerns, and complaints.
- Take appropriate action to resolve issues and turn dissatisfied guests into returning guests.
- Maintain a clean, comfortable, and welcoming dining environment.
- Set the example for hospitality, teamwork, and problem-solving during every shift.
- Monitor guest feedback and take action to improve the overall dining experience.
Daily Restaurant Operations
- Oversee all daily restaurant operations, including front-of-house and back-of-house performance.
- Ensure proper opening, shift change, and closing procedures are followed.
- Monitor food quality, ticket times, service standards, cleanliness, and staffing levels.
- Ensure the restaurant is properly prepared for breakfast, lunch, dinner, late-night, weekends, and high-volume periods.
- Manage shift execution and support team members during peak business hours.
- Ensure restaurant equipment, facilities, and supplies are maintained and operating properly.
- Complete required reports, checklists, logs, and administrative duties accurately and on time.
Staffing, Training, and Scheduling
- Recruit, interview, hire, train, and retain qualified restaurant employees.
- Ensure all team members complete required training.
- Prepare and manage employee schedules based on business needs.
- Maintain proper staffing levels to support guest service and operational goals.
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance management.
- Address employee concerns professionally and in accordance with company policy.
- Support employee development and promote internal advancement whenever possible.
Food Safety, Cleanliness, and Quality
- Maintain a safe, clean, secure, and healthy restaurant environment for guests and employees.
- Follow and enforce all food safety, sanitation, and health department standards.
- Ensure consistent food preparation, presentation, portion control, and recipe execution.
- Maintain high standards for restaurant cleanliness, uniforms, appearance, and overall image.
- Complete food safety checks, cleaning schedules, and quality control procedures.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, labeling, and rotation of food products.
- Maintain ServSafe standards and support compliance with all food safety requirements.
Financial Performance and Cost Control
- Drive sales by maintaining excellent guest service, food quality, cleanliness, and operational execution.
- Manage restaurant profitability through effective cost control.
- Monitor and control labor costs, food costs, waste, cash handling, and other controllable expenses.
- Review restaurant performance and take action to improve results.
- Manage inventory levels and ordering to meet business needs.
- Ensure accurate cash handling, deposits, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Support loss prevention efforts and ensure company procedures are followed.
- Analyze sales trends, staffing needs, and operational opportunities.
Inventory and Vendor Management
- Oversee ordering of food, beverages, paper goods, cleaning supplies, and restaurant materials.
- Maintain accurate inventory records.
- Monitor product usage and reduce unnecessary waste.
- Ensure deliveries are checked in properly and stored according to food safety standards.
- Work with approved vendors and distributors as needed.
- Maintain proper stock levels to support daily operations without over-ordering.
Compliance and Safety
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Follow all company policies and franchise standards.
- Maintain a safe working environment for employees and guests.
- Complete accident, incident, and safety reports promptly and accurately.
- Enforce proper cash handling, security, food safety, and loss prevention procedures.
- Ensure required licenses, permits, postings, and certifications are maintained as applicable.
- Take prompt corrective action when standards are not being met.
QualificationsRequired
- Previous restaurant management experience required.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead a team in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
- Strong focus on guest service and employee development.
- Understanding of restaurant operations, labor control, food cost, inventory, scheduling, and cash handling.
- Ability to work varying shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
- Ability to stand for long periods and work in a busy restaurant environment.
- Must meet age requirements for the position based on state and local laws.
- ServSafe Certification preferred, or ability to obtain certification within company-required timeframe.
Preferred
- 2 or more years of restaurant General Manager experience.
- Full-service restaurant management experience.
- Breakfast, diner, family dining, or high-volume restaurant experience.
- Experience managing front-of-house and back-of-house teams.
- Experience with hiring, training, scheduling, inventory, food cost, labor cost, and P&L management.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to [insert weight, such as 25–50 lbs.] as needed.
- Ability to work around hot equipment, cleaning products, food preparation areas, and dining room service areas.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
- Ability to perform both administrative duties and hands-on restaurant support as needed.
