Middle School Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Teacher

Public Charter School Job Description

Position Summary:

The Middle School Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs), state standards, and charter school expectations. The ESE Teacher collaborates with general education teachers, administrators, families, and support staff to ensure students receive appropriate accommodations, modifications, and services that support academic, behavioral, social, and emotional growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Responsibilities:

 Provide direct instruction to students with disabilities in a support facilitation

framework

 Develop and implement standards-based lessons aligned with state standards and

student IEP goals.

 Differentiate instruction to meet individual learning, behavioral, and social-emotional

needs.

 Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions.

 Monitor student progress regularly and adjust instruction as needed.

 Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment that promotes student

success.

IEP and Compliance Responsibilities:

 Develop, implement, and maintain compliant IEPs in accordance with federal, state, and

district regulations.

 Collect and maintain accurate data regarding student progress toward IEP goals and

objectives.

 Participate in eligibility meetings, staffing meetings, reevaluations, manifestation

determinations, and annual reviews.

 Ensure accommodations and modifications are implemented consistently across

educational settings.

 Maintain confidential student records and documentation in compliance with FERPA

and IDEA requirements.

Collaboration and Communication

 Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive instructional practices.

 Communicate effectively and professionally with parents/guardians regarding student

progress, concerns, and supports.

 Work collaboratively with related service providers, paraprofessionals, counselors, and

administrators.

 Participate in professional learning communities, staff meetings, and school initiatives.

Behavioral and Social-Emotional Support

 Implement positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) and behavior plans as

needed.

 Support students in developing self-advocacy, organizational, and executive functioning

skills.

 Foster positive peer relationships and student engagement.

Additional Responsibilities

 Supervise students during assigned duties, transitions, field trips, and school activities.

 Maintain certification requirements and participate in ongoing professional

development.

 Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or ESE Coordinator.

Qualifications

 Bachelor’s Degree in Exceptional Student Education, Special Education, or related field

required.

 Valid Florida Educator Certificate in Exceptional Student Education (ESE K–12) or

eligibility for certification.

 ESOL endorsement or willingness to obtain preferred.

 Reading endorsement or willingness to obtain preferred.

 Experience working with middle school students preferred.

 Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, Florida Standards, accommodations, behavior

management, and differentiated instruction.

 Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.

Physical Requirements

 Ability to supervise and engage actively with students throughout the school day.

 Ability to lift, move, or assist students and classroom materials as needed.

 Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and monitor student activities for extended periods.

Terms of Employment

 Full-time, 10-month position.

 Reports directly to the Principal and/or ESE Coordinator.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $48,000.00 - $67,000.00 per year
