Campbell.HR has partnered with CNG Engineering in their search for a Controller. The Controller provides leadership and oversight for the company’s accounting, financial reporting, and operational finance activities. Key responsibilities include maintaining strong internal controls, enforcing accounting policies and ensuring compliance with GAAP standards, and applicable regulatory requirements. The Controller oversees external audits, corporate payroll tax reporting and corporate income tax compliance while serving as the primary liaison with auditors, tax advisors, banking partners, and other financial stakeholders. Manages daily cash flow and liquidity activities to support operational stability and long-term business objectives. Leads budgeting and forecasting processes, monitors performance against financial targets, and provides strategic recommendations to support operational and business decisions. Oversees accounting and financial functions within the Vantagepoint operating system, partnering with third-party providers to ensure reporting accuracy and operational efficiency. Acts as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, supporting organizational profitability, financial stability, and long-term growth initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in accounting, finance or similar field.
- 3+ years of experience in an accounting/finance managerial role.
- Experience within AEC or similar industry preferred.
- Strong proficiency with GAAP and budgeting software, including Deltek Vantagepoint.
License & Certification
- Valid Texas Driver License.
- Executed Mutual Confidentiality Agreement.
- CPA preferred.

Essential Functions
- Directs and oversees all accounting, financial reporting, and operational finance functions to ensure accuracy, integrity, and alignment with organizational objectives.
- Prepares, reviews, and analyzes monthly, quarterly, and year-to-date financial statements for executive leadership and ownership review.
- Leads month-end and quarter-end close processes, ensuring timely reconciliations, accurate journal entries and adherence to reporting deadlines.
- Advises executive leadership on financial performance, operational trends, profitability, and strategic business decisions.
- Develops and manages the annual operating budget, forecasting process and long-range financial planning initiatives.
- Monitors monthly and year-to-date financial performance against budget and forecast, providing variance analysis and corrective action recommendations.
- Establishes, implements, and maintains internal controls, accounting policies and financial procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance.
- Oversees daily cash management, liquidity planning, and cash flow forecasting to support operational and strategic business needs.
- Maintains and strengthens relationships with banking partners, including treasury management and financing activities.
- Coordinates and manages all external audit activities, including preparation of audit schedules, supporting documentation and auditor communications.
- Oversees corporate payroll tax filings, corporate income tax compliance and coordination with external tax advisors and regulatory agencies.
- Recruits, trains, mentors, and manage accounting personnel while fostering accountability, professional development, and operational excellence.
- Evaluates accounting department workflows, staffing structure and operational processes to improve efficiency, scalability, and reporting accuracy.
- Leads process improvement initiatives enhancing accounting operations, automation, internal reporting, and financial controls.
- Serves as the primary financial liaison between executive leadership, auditors, tax professionals, banking partners, and third-party stakeholders.
- Oversees and coordinates all accounting and financial matters related to the company’s Vantagepoint operating system and third-party provider relationships.
- Ensures data integrity, reporting functionality and process optimization within Vantagepoint to support operational and financial reporting requirements.
- Administers and optimizes Deltek VantagePoint to improve financial process efficiency and ensure data integrity.
- Supports strategic planning, financial modeling, risk assessment and operational initiatives that contribute to long-term organizational growth and profitability.
- Performs other duties, tasks, and assignments as requested.
Working Conditions
General office and sedentary, requiring extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Ability to exert a light degree of physical effort including carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, walking and the assisted lifting of objects and materials up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision and distance vision. Limited exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, odors, humidity, temperature and noise extremes, wetness, and vibrations. Ability to perform work from a computer and printer, use a telephone, and calculator. Manual dexterity, ability to reach, bend, and use 2-step stool while safely lifting and lowering boxes. Ability to travel to various properties, meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays. This is an onsite position with established workdays of Monday through Friday. Remote work is seldom available.
