About Golden Coast Rehab

Golden Coast Rehab is opening an outpatient mental health and co-occurring treatment program in La Mesa, California.
Our program will provide PHP and IOP services for adults in a structured outpatient setting.
We are looking for a full-time AMFT Lead Therapist to support our initial client caseload, run therapy groups, provide individual therapy, and work closely with our Program Manager / Clinical Director.
This is a good fit for an associate-level clinician who wants meaningful hands-on experience in:
PHP / IOP programming
Group therapy
Individual therapy
Treatment planning
Medi-Cal documentation
Mental health and co-occurring disorders
Structured outpatient care

Position Overview

The AMFT Lead Therapist will be one of the primary clinical team members for the program.
This person will carry a small caseload, expected to start around 5 clients.
The role will include facilitating groups, providing 1-on-1 therapy, completing documentation, and supporting client engagement and treatment progress.
This role is best for someone who is reliable, organized, comfortable with groups, and interested in helping build a new program from the ground up.
The AMFT Lead Therapist will work under the supervision and direction of the Program Manager / Clinical Director.

Responsibilities

Carry a clinical caseload of approximately 5 clients to start
Serve as the primary therapist for assigned clients
Facilitate PHP / IOP therapeutic groups on a regular schedule
Provide individual therapy / 1-on-1 sessions
Complete treatment plans and treatment plan updates
Complete progress notes and clinical documentation accurately and on time
Support intake, admission, and orientation for new clients
Help determine client needs, goals, risks, and appropriate clinical interventions
Participate in case consultation with the Program Manager / Clinical Director
Communicate client progress, attendance concerns, and clinical issues to leadership
Help monitor client engagement and follow up when clients miss sessions
Support discharge planning and step-down planning
Coordinate with case management, psychiatry, medical providers, and outside providers as needed
Support clients with coping skills, emotional regulation, relapse prevention, communication skills, and life stabilization
Help clients work through barriers to treatment participation
Support clients with mental health and co-occurring substance use needs
Maintain a trauma-informed and client-centered approach
Help maintain a safe, respectful, and structured group environment
Identify and escalate safety concerns, crisis issues, or higher level of care needs
Participate in clinical team meetings
Support authorization-related documentation as needed
Assist with medical necessity documentation
Document billable and non-billable services as required
Follow HIPAA, Medi-Cal, County, and program documentation requirements
Maintain professional boundaries and ethical clinical practice
Work under the supervision and direction of the Program Manager / Clinical Director
Assist with building group curriculum and improving clinical programming
Help establish a strong clinical culture as the program grows
Support quality improvement and compliance efforts as needed
Be flexible and willing to help in a startup-style clinical environment

Qualifications

Current California AMFT registration in good standing required
ACSW or APCC candidates may also be considered
Experience with any of the following preferred:
Adult mental health
Substance use treatment
Co-occurring disorders
PHP / IOP
Outpatient care
Community mental health
Group therapy
Medi-Cal documentation
Comfortable facilitating groups or willing to grow quickly in that area
Strong documentation and writing skills
Reliable, organized, and team-oriented
Comfortable working with adults in a structured treatment setting
Able to maintain appropriate clinical boundaries
Able to communicate clearly with clients, staff, and leadership
Able to work onsite in La Mesa, CA
Bilingual English / Spanish is a plus, but not required

Supervision

This position works under the supervision of the Program Manager / Clinical Director.
Clinical supervision may be available for associate-level candidates depending on fit, schedule, and program needs.
The AMFT Lead Therapist will be expected to practice within their registration status and scope of practice.
Clinical documentation and treatment recommendations will be reviewed according to program requirements.

Schedule

Full-time position
Monday through Friday preferred
Daytime availability required
Some early evening availability is a plus
Expected start date: August 1 to August 15, 2026
