Full Job Description

Job Title: Lathe Programmer

Department: Manufacturing / CNC Machining
Reports To: Production Manager / Machine Shop Supervisor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Lathe Programmer to join our precision manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC lathes to produce high-quality components according to engineering specifications. This role requires a deep understanding of CNC programming (G-code), tooling, and machining processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Program CNC lathes using G-code, CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360), or at the machine controller.
Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to determine machining operations and tolerances.
Set up machines, including selecting tools, fixtures, and setting offsets.
Conduct first article inspections and adjust programs as needed to ensure part accuracy.
Monitor machining operations to ensure quality, productivity, and tool life.
Maintain and troubleshoot machines and tools when necessary.
Optimize machining processes to improve cycle time, efficiency, and reduce waste.
Document programs, setup sheets, and inspection records.
Work collaboratively with engineers, QC personnel, and production staff.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment in accordance with company and OSHA standards.

Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent; technical school or associate degree preferred.
3+ years of experience as a CNC lathe operator/programmer.
Proficient in CNC programming (manual and/or CAM-based).
Strong knowledge of cutting tools, feeds, and speeds for various materials.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T symbols.
Familiar with CNC controls such as Fanuc, Mazak, Haas, or Okuma.
Good math skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.
Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with live tooling, Y-axis lathes, or Swiss-type machines.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
Certification in CNC machining or programming is a plus.

Work Environment:

Manufacturing floor environment; may involve standing, lifting, and working with machine tools.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $38.00 - $48.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
