Position Summary

The Healthcare MEPF (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection) Construction Superintendent is responsible for leading and coordinating all field activities related to MEPF systems on a medical office tenant improvement in Menlo Park, CA. This position ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, healthcare regulations, and applicable codes while minimizing disruptions to critical equipment. The superintendent will work closely with project management, owners, design teams, subcontractors, and commissioning agents to deliver a complex healthcare facility with a 5-star hotel level of finish that meet the highest standards of quality and reliability.

Essential Responsibilities

Project Leadership

· Lead all field operations involving mechanical, electrical, plumbing, medical gas, and fire protection systems.

· Coordinate daily activities of MEPF subcontractors to maintain project schedules and sequencing.

· Review construction documents, BIM coordination models, shop drawings, and installation details to identify and resolve conflicts before construction.

· Participate in pull planning, look-ahead scheduling, and milestone planning to ensure timely project delivery.

· Coordinate installation activities with architectural, structural, interior design, and specialty trades.

Quality Assurance & Commissioning

· Conduct routine field inspections to verify workmanship, system installations, and compliance with project specifications.

· Oversee installation of HVAC, electrical distribution, emergency power, plumbing, access control, data, low voltage, IT, fire alarm, and fire protection systems.

· Coordinate inspections, testing, balancing, flushing, commissioning, integrated systems testing, and owner acceptance activities.

· Verify completion of deficiency lists, punch lists, and corrective actions prior to turnover.

· Support project closeout with as-built documentation, operations and maintenance manuals, staff training, and warranty documentation.

Safety Leadership

· Promote a culture of safety through daily field oversight and enforcement of OSHA standards and company safety policies. OSHPD not required

· Conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site inspections.

· Ensure subcontractor compliance with site-specific safety requirements.

· Monitor confined space activities, energized work, hot work permits, and other high-risk operations.

Communication & Coordination

· Serve as the primary field contact for all MEPF activities.

· Participate in owner meetings, subcontractor coordination meetings, and project scheduling sessions.

· Collaborate with project managers, facility engineering staff, commissioning agents, architects, engineers, and inspectors.

· Document daily construction activities, manpower, production, inspections, and project issues.

Required Qualifications

· High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.

· Minimum of 10 years of commercial construction experience with at least 5 years supervising healthcare MEPF projects.

· Demonstrated experience working in medical office buildings, surgery centers, or other healthcare facilities.

· Thorough understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and medical gas systems.

· Strong knowledge of healthcare construction standards, utility shutdown planning, phased construction, and commissioning.

· Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, coordination models, and project schedules.

· Strong leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.

· Proficiency with Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud (BIM 360), Bluebeam, Microsoft Project or Primavera P6, and Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience with Design-Build and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD).

· Experience delivering projects for major healthcare systems.

· Knowledge of Lean Construction principles and Last Planner System.

· Familiarity with prefabricated MEP systems and virtual design and construction (VDC).

Preferred Certifications

· OSHA 30-Hour Construction

· CHC (Certified Healthcare Constructor) preferred

· ASHE Health Care Construction Workshop preferred

· First Aid/CPR Certification

· LEED Green Associate (preferred)

This position is based in a vacant medical office building, however flexibility to work nights, weekends, or off-hours is required to support planned utility shutdown and commissioning activities, as needed.

Pay: $185,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
