Overview
MFS Construction is looking for an experienced Commercial Construction Foreman with a strong background in carpentry and drywall to join our field team.
This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for managing daily field operations across a variety of commercial construction projects throughout the Bay Area. The ideal candidate is an experienced field leader who can supervise crews and subcontractors, coordinate daily construction activities, read and interpret plans, maintain safety and quality standards, and assist with hands-on construction work as needed.
Strong experience in commercial carpentry, framing, drywall, doors, hardware, and finish work is highly preferred.
When assigned to qualifying public works projects, employees will be paid the applicable prevailing wage rate for the specific trade or classification of work being performed in accordance with project requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise field crews, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure efficient daily jobsite operations.
- Assign daily work activities and monitor crew productivity, workmanship, and progress.
- Perform and oversee commercial carpentry and drywall work as needed.
- Coordinate rough and finish carpentry, wood and metal framing, drywall, blocking, backing, doors, frames, hardware, casework, trim, and miscellaneous installations.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, details, shop drawings, and project requirements.
- Lay out work and verify dimensions and existing field conditions before installation.
- Coordinate manpower, materials, tools, equipment, and deliveries required for scheduled work.
- Coordinate field activities with Project Managers, the Director of Construction, subcontractors, and client representatives.
- Monitor construction quality and ensure work meets project plans, specifications, and company standards.
- Identify field conflicts, deficiencies, and potential schedule impacts and communicate them promptly to project management.
- Enforce company safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite.
- Document daily progress, manpower, field conditions, delays, and other relevant project information.
- Assist with inspections, punch-list completion, and project closeout activities.
- Support other construction activities and trades as required based on project needs.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of commercial construction experience, with strong experience in carpentry and drywall.
- Prior experience as a Foreman, Lead Carpenter, or Crew Lead strongly preferred.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of commercial rough and finish carpentry.
- Experience with wood and metal framing, drywall, blocking, backing, doors, frames, hardware, casework, trim, and miscellaneous commercial installations.
- Ability to independently read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, details, and shop drawings.
- Ability to lay out work, plan daily activities, and direct field crews.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, quality control, and jobsite safety.
- Ability to supervise multiple trades and coordinate subcontractors when required.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify field issues and communicate solutions to project management.
- Experience working in occupied commercial, healthcare, education, government, or similar facilities is preferred.
- Procore, Bluebeam, or similar construction software experience is preferred.
- California public works and prevailing wage project experience is preferred.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel between project locations throughout the Bay Area.
Position Expectations
This is a hands-on field leadership position. The Foreman is expected to assist with carpentry, drywall, and other construction work as needed while also supervising crews and coordinating daily field activities.
The successful candidate should be comfortable working across different types of commercial construction projects and be able to adapt to changing project needs, schedules, and field conditions.
Compensation
$36.00–$40.00 per hour base pay
When working on qualifying public works projects, the employee will be paid the applicable prevailing wage rate for the specific trade/classification actually being performed, in accordance with the applicable project wage determination and requirements.
Overtime may be available based on project requirements.
