Full Job Description

Purpose

The Parish’s liturgical music ensembles require support in member recruitment, effective rehearsal strategy, planning and preparation for liturgy, cantor training, and

coordination for large masses in which ensembles combine. The purpose is to provide excellent liturgical music leadership for the fostering of increased communal

participation, ensemble growth, and outstanding delivery of familiar and new music. The ideal candidate will have a strong liturgical music knowledge, leadership skill,

appreciation for collaboration, for working with a range of singing abilities and an openness to a wide range of music, all for the purpose of uplifting the community in

a joyful and growing worship experience.

Job Duties

Serve as music director for Sunday 9:00am and 11:00am liturgies

Assist ensemble directors with choir recruitment strategies, including written plans to which they are held accountable

Support ensemble directors with planning and preparing music for liturgies that upholds the mission of facilitating greater communal participation and reflection on the Scripture

Train, direct, and expand choirs, ensembles, and volunteer cantors.

Coordinate musical elements for special liturgical celebrations as designated by the Pastor, which may include joining multiple ensembles together

Coordinate and planning for additional services, such as parish weddings and funerals as needed

During rehearsals for special liturgical celebrations, serve as music director

Observe each ensemble during their regular mass time(s) once per month; provide feedback to both the ensemble coordinator and Pastor and follow-up with specialized support for the ensemble director as needed

Observe and/ or coordinate ensemble rehearsals at least 2 times per month

Attend ongoing formation offered through the Office of Liturgy at the Diocese of San Jose

Supervise volunteers and ensure compliance with safe environment protocols

Attend and contribute to regular Pastoral Staff Meetings, Liturgy Committee meetings, and Diocesan gatherings

Develop or coordinate the creation of audiovisual aides for the congregation

Monitor and manage the music ministry budget

Select liturgically appropriate music that fosters congregational participation.

Stay current on liturgical and musical developments at the diocesan and national levels and communicate relevant updates to the parish.

Promote unity among all parish musicians and harmony with presiders and other liturgical ministers.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor.

Qualifications

Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook.

Work as part of a team.

Attend faculty, administrative, and all other meetings as needed.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Strong supervisory and leadership skills.

Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

Working knowledge of sound systems and projection equipment.

Completion of Safe Environment training.

Computer proficiency in word processing, scheduling, spreadsheets, and slide creation.

Collaboration and Communication:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Strong command of the Catholic liturgy and the role of liturgical music during mass

Knowledge of the essential Church documents related to liturgical music

Demonstrated competency in running music ensemble rehearsalsStrong managerial and administrative skills

Able to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, diocesan departments, and the general public.

Able to interact with school-aged children in a warm, confident manner.

Self-motivated and reliable.

Knowledge of first-aid procedures.

Ability to work independently and with a sense of immediacy.

Outstanding interpersonal skills

Ethical and discreet team player.

Language Skills:

Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders of the parish.

English, required

Other Requirements:

Must have an understanding and acceptance for the mission of the Catholic Church.

Must support the teachings and values of the Catholic Church and its mission and act as a Minister of the Faith.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 20 hours per week

Salary Range (per year based on the education and experience): $25.75-$30.98
