Our multidisciplinary team collaborates to create personalized treatment plans that promote healing and growth.

Overview:
The Behavioral Specialist at LGTC plays a vital, front-line role in supporting clients throughout their treatment journey, from admission through discharge. This position works closely with clients on a daily basis, providing consistent behavioral, emotional, and practical support within a structured therapeutic environment.

This role is based at one of our two locations—San Carlos or Union Avenue—and candidates may indicate their preferred site. The working hours are Monday to Friday 1:30pm-6:15pm.

Behavioral Specialists contribute meaningfully to group programming, model healthy behaviors, and help clients build skills that improve overall functioning and quality of life. This role requires the ability to respond effectively to client distress, support crisis situations, and collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary treatment team.

This is a highly relational role suited for individuals who are empathetic, proactive, and motivated to make a meaningful impact in clients’ lives.

Duties:

Client Support & Milieu Engagement

Provide day-to-day, behavioral and emotional support to clients in alignment with individualized treatment plans in the role of paraprofessional (not intended to provide/replace individual psychotherapy)
Serve as a consistent, positive role model through professional behavior, communication, and emotional regulation
Support clients in utilizing coping skills and navigating moments of distress
Assist clients during “check-ins,” including use of structured tools to assess emotional state and safety, and facilitating structured therapeutic check-in with clinician if necessary
With support of the clinical team, help maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical rounds, and trainings

Group Therapy & Programming

Actively participate in group by modeling appropriate engagement, reinforcing behavioral expectations, and demonstrating use of coping skills.
Facilitate experiential/behavioral based groups as needed, maintaining the integrity of the curriculum and therapeutic environment
Contribute meaningful observations and insights to support client growth

Crisis Support & Safety Monitoring

Respond to client distress and crisis situations by identifying and escalating safety concerns promptly to the clinical team
Collaborate with therapists and program leadership to ensure timely intervention

Professional Conduct & Development

Maintain strict confidentiality of all client and program information
Demonstrate professionalism in appearance, communication, and boundaries
Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field (or currently pursuing)
Prior experience in mental health, behavioral health, or a related setting preferred
Experience working with adolescents and/or adults in structured treatment settings is a plus
Basic understanding of mental health conditions, therapeutic environments, and crisis intervention principles
