Full Job Description

Job Overview
Join our team at a popular deli in San Luis Obispo as a Line Cook/Prep Cook. In this vital role, you will contribute to the smooth operation of our kitchen by preparing ingredients, maintaining cleanliness, and leading the culinary process from start to finish. This person will have the responsibility of ordering ingredients, scheduling staff, prepping kitchen, preparing sandwiches, salads, dressings and other menu items, washing dishes, cleaning, maintaining company standards, and execute food service in a timely manner. Must be available for work on weekends.

Responsibilities

Lead daily deli and kitchen operations to ensure efficient service and high-quality food preparation
Supervise, train, and support deli staff
Place and manage product and supply orders
Monitor inventory and help control food costs
Oversee and assist with food preparation and meal assembly according to menu specifications and safety standards
Maintain cleanliness of dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment to ensure a hygienic workspace
Support kitchen staff by organizing ingredients and supplies for efficient meal service
Follow food safety protocols diligently, including proper handling, storage, and sanitation procedures
Support opening and closing duties as needed
Help with dishwashing duties
Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards and all food handling practices meet health regulations and quality standards

Requirements

Prior experience in a food service environment such as restaurants, catering, or dietary departments
Kitchen managerial experience preferred
Knowledge of food preparation techniques and basic culinary skills, including knife handling and meal assembly
Familiarity with food safety standards and proper food handling procedures
Current Food Handler Manager certification or ability to get one within 15 days required
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen setting while maintaining attention to detail
Strong teamwork skills with a positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills
Flexibility to work various shifts including weekends or holidays as needed

Pay: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour
