Full Job Description

Visit New Braunfels is seeking an energetic, hospitality-driven Visitor Center & Operations Manager to lead the operations of the Visitor Center which is currently being relocated to the historic Hinman House.

This position serves as the operational and business leader of the Visitor Center and retail store, responsible for visitor experience, retail sales performance, financial management, staff leadership, and community engagement. The Manager will lead the transition into the new facility, including retail startup operations, technology implementation, inventory management, POS integration, and the development of sustainable revenue-generating programs.

The ideal candidate is a strong people leader with experience in tourism, hospitality, retail operations, or destination marketing who thrives in a dynamic public-facing environment and can balance exceptional guest service with operational excellence and business performance.

Roles and responsibilities

Visitor experience & operations

Manage daily operations of the Visitor Center and ensure exceptional customer service standards
Serve as the primary point of contact for visitors seeking information about attractions, events, lodging, dining, and experiences in New Braunfels
Maintain a welcoming, engaging, and professional visitor environment that reflects the Visit New Braunfels brand
Oversee facility readiness, cleanliness, visual presentation, and operational efficiency.
Establish operating hours, staffing plans, and service standards
Lead operational readiness for the new Visitor Center location, including systems setup, procedures, and workflow development

Retail operations & business management

Lead all retail operations, including merchandise selection, purchasing, inventory management, vendor relationships, and merchandising displays
Develop and implement retail operating procedures, financial controls, and inventory management systems
Manage Point of Sale (POS) systems, cash handling procedures, sales reporting, and reconciliations
Monitor retail performance, revenue, expenses, gross margins, and profitability
Analyze sales trends and visitor purchasing behavior to identify revenue growth opportunities
Coordinate seasonal, destination-themed, and promotional retail offerings
Identify and recommend new products, services, and revenue-generating opportunities

Financial & technology management

Assist with annual budget development, forecasting, and operational planning
Track and report on visitor statistics, retail sales, operational metrics, and program performance
Ensure accurate integration and utilization of POS, CRM, inventory management, and financial reporting systems
Partner with finance staff to ensure compliance with accounting procedures and reporting requirements
Maintain accurate financial records and operational reporting

Staff leadership & volunteer coordination

Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise Visitor Center staff and volunteers
Foster a positive, service-oriented culture focused on hospitality, teamwork, and community pride
Develop operational procedures, training materials, and service standards
Ensure appropriate staffing coverage during peak tourism periods, weekends, and special events

Community engagement & programming

Plan and execute activations, programming, and special events at the Hinman House Visitor Center
Collaborate with local businesses, tourism partners, and community organizations to create engaging visitor experiences
Coordinate promotional activities that increase visitation, retail sales, and community engagement
Support destination marketing initiatives and tourism campaigns as needed

Qualifications and skills

Required

Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Tourism, Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in hospitality, tourism, retail management, visitor services, or a related field
Experience supervising staff and/or volunteers
Experience managing retail business operations, including inventory, purchasing, and financial accountability
Experience with POS systems, sales reporting, and cash management
Understanding of budgeting, financial reporting, and operational performance metrics
Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and special events as needed
Valid driver’s license

Preferred

Knowledge of New Braunfels and the surrounding tourism market
Experience opening, relocating, or launching a retail location
Experience with event planning, activations, or community programming
Experience integrating POS systems with CRM and accounting software
Familiarity with destination marketing organizations, nonprofits, or tourism-related financial operations
Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills

Working conditions and physical demands

Working hours are typically Monday-Friday

Seeing details of objects and print, to include fine print from both electronic and hard copy text
Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
