Custom Home Project Manager

Location: San Mateo, CA | Peninsula Projects
Employment Type: Full-Time

About Us

We are a growing, privately held, mid-sized custom home builder and general engineering firm based in San Mateo, with over 30 years of experience delivering high-end custom homes and construction management services. We self-perform key trades including demolition, excavation, foundations, framing, and finish carpentry.

Our work environment is fast-paced, collaborative, and enjoyable, and we primarily build throughout the Peninsula.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Custom Home Project Manager to join our team. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering high-quality custom residential projects on time and within budget while maintaining excellent relationships with clients, subcontractors, and design teams.

Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and execute all phases of custom residential construction
Fully understand project scope, plans, specifications, and various construction methods
Develop and maintain detailed project schedules and budgets
Inspect and monitor job sites to ensure compliance with building, safety, and quality standards
Interpret and communicate plans and contract terms to clients, staff, and subcontractors
Review, execute, and manage subcontracts
Identify and maintain strong relationships with preferred subcontractors
Coordinate closely with architects, engineers, designers, estimators, and internal teams
Ensure job sites are properly prepared and materials are delivered on schedule
Process and manage subcontracts, change orders, RFIs, and purchase orders
Update schedules to reflect progress and changes
Prepare required reports, billings, and documentation per contract requirements
Lead client meetings and prepare meeting minutes
Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget
Assist with invoice coding and cost tracking
Produce accurate material takeoffs for pricing and plan adherence

Qualifications & Requirements

Ability to read and interpret construction plans and detailed specifications (required)
Proficient in English (spoken, read, and written)
Strong computer skills, including Excel
Reliable transportation and clean DMV record
Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Drug-free workplace
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
High level of honesty and integrity

Experience in additional construction trades or disciplines is a huge plus and will be given priority consideration.
Experience, effort, and a strong team-player attitude lead to long-term growth opportunities.
