ABOUT THE POSITION

There is currently one (1), two-year, fixed-term vacancy for a Department Analyst I (DA I) with the District Attorney's Office.

The Department Analyst I (DA I) is responsible for gathering Criminal Justice data from multiple information systems and specialized legal databases for use in legal proceedings, grant reporting, Public Information Requests, and internal process monitoring. Some reports consist of charts and graphs prepared for Deputy District Attorneys for use in criminal proceedings, others consist of specific tallies of case, defendant, or victim types for state and federal grant reporting. The DA I provides the full range of analytical support, and this entails (but is not limited to):

Discuss and understand data requests from DA employees.
Define and collect needed data for requested reports.
Collect data from a variety of sources including the District Attorney's internal case management system.
Research Criminal Justice Data from external sources to develop comparisons to Marin County data.
Provide detailed requirements to appropriate individuals if available tools are insufficient for data pull, and a custom query is needed.
Work with spreadsheets to prepare reports, including use of pivot tables, dashboards, graphs and charts.
Recommend and prepare visualizations to present dense Criminal Justice information through counts, tallies, charts and graphs.
Summarize reports, present findings to supervisor and Deputy District Attorney's requesting data.

ABOUT YOU

Our highly qualified candidate is highly organized, has exceptional attention to detail, strong time management skills, possesses excellent written and oral communication skills, is an analytical thinker, proactive, flexible in their approach to their work, and can solve problems creatively. The ideal candidate must be highly proficient with Excel, and have some experience working with Microsoft Power BI. The candidate will need to have experience of working successfully in a team environment and will also need to work independently. This person must develop and maintain positive working relationships with everyone. Our ideal candidate knows what it takes to manage a successful project. We are looking for someone to support the Deputy District Attorneys in collecting and preparing specific statistics as needed, as well as supporting the office as a whole by developing detailed accurate data for use in responding to Public Record act requests. The ideal candidate will be an asset to divisions within the department by brainstorming solutions for data collection and reporting for data driven policy and procedure decision making, and progress tracking. The ability to identify and develop clear priorities, manage workload, and be able to work under short deadlines is critical.

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE OF

Principles and practices of business and public administration.
Principles and practices of work planning, data collection and analysis, project management and research methodology.
Applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

ABILITY TO

Plan, organize, and conduct research and analytical studies.
Interpret, apply and explain laws, regulations and policies governing program operations.
Prepare clear, concise and accurate reports, correspondence, policies, procedures and other written materials.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including other departments, community members and organizations, public and private agencies, and local, state and federal agencies.
Effectively represent assigned programs, the department and County in meetings and presentations.
Work under short, externally imposed deadlines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in business or public administration, public policy, political science, social services, health care administration or a field related to the work. Professional level experience performing administrative, analytical, fiscal, legislative, operational, policy, program planning or research work may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Special Requirements: The selected candidate must pass a background investigation as required for employment in a law enforcement agency.
