Animal Handler – Farm Animal Job Description

Our mission is to bridge gaps in services and advocate for meaningful, coordinated care.

Role Overview
An Animal Handler on a farm is responsible for the daily care, feeding, and safe handling of livestock such as cattle, sheep, pigs, and poultry. The position ensures the health, safety, and productivity of animals while maintaining clean, safe living environments.

Key Responsibilities

Feeding & Watering: Provide balanced diets and fresh water according to species-specific needs.
Health Monitoring: Observe animals daily for signs of illness, injury, or distress; report concerns promptly.
Handling & Transport: Safely guide, restrain, and move animals for feeding, treatment, breeding, or events, minimizing stress and injury.
Housing & Cleaning: Maintain barns, pens, and grazing areas by cleaning, disinfecting, and ensuring proper ventilation.
Veterinary Support: Assist with vaccinations, medications, and minor procedures under veterinary guidance.
Record Keeping: Maintain logs of feed, health treatments, growth, and other care details.
Training & Enrichment: Assist in training animals for farm work or events and provide environmental enrichment.
Compliance: Follow animal welfare regulations and farm safety protocols.
Maintenance: Exterior property consisting of 8 acres
Farm Equipment: Operating Tractor, manure spreader, hayride buggy, ect.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

Knowledge of animal nutrition, behavior, and welfare standards.
Ability to recognize signs of illness or distress in animals.
Strong physical stamina to lift, carry, and handle animals.
Patience, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
Good communication skills for coordination with veterinarians, farm managers, and staff.
Experience in animal husbandry or farm work is preferred.

Physical Demands

Regular lifting (up to 20 lbs), occasional lifting (up to 45 lbs).
Standing, walking, climbing, stooping, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Ability to handle potentially dangerous animals safely.

Work Environment

Outdoor farm setting with exposure to weather, dust, and animal odors.
Moderate noise levels and occasional exposure to animal waste or manure.

Summary: This role is hands-on, physically demanding, and requires a deep understanding of animal care. It is essential for maintaining healthy, productive livestock and ensuring compliance with animal welfare standards.

Must be experienced in Farm Animal Handling to apply.

PRN Day Shift

Hourly rate: $19.00

Background Check required

Pay: $19.00 per hour
