Full Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Dietary Services Manager to lead the dietary department within an assisted living community. This vital role involves overseeing administrative tasks within the department, meal planning/ordering, food safety, compliance and nutritional care tailored to residents' unique needs. You will lead the daily operations of our kitchen and dining services, ensure compliance with health regulations, and foster a positive dining experience for residents. Your leadership will inspire a team committed to delivering exceptional nutritional services that enhance residents’ quality of life. The ideal candidate understands how an RCFE kitchen operates from the inside out and takes pride in serving meals that residents genuinely look forward to.This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a vibrant, resident-focused environment.

Responsibilities

Manage daily operations of the dietary department, including meal preparation, service, and sanitation standards
Develop and oversee individualized care plans that incorporate clinical nutrition principles and residents’ specific health requirements (low sodium, diabetic, mechanical soft, pureed, etc)
Supervise dietary staff, providing training, mentorship, and performance evaluations to ensure high-quality service delivery
Accommodate individual resident preferences, allergies, and physician-ordered dietary restrictions
Ensure meals are served on time, at proper temperatures, and with attractive presentation
Ensure compliance with all health regulation policies related to food safety, sanitation, and documentation using Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems
Step into any kitchen role as needed — this is a hands-on position
Oversee budgeting, inventory management, and procurement processes to maintain cost-effective operations while ensuring quality standards are met
Maintain a consistently clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen in compliance with Title 22 RCFE regulations, county health department standards, and food safety best practices
Oversee proper food storage, labeling, dating, temperature logs, and equipment cleaning schedules
Prepare the kitchen for health inspections and licensing visits at all times — not just when one is scheduled
Develop and post menus, manage food and supply ordering, and control department costs within budget
Supervise, train, and schedule dietary staff; foster a positive, team-oriented kitchen culture
Maintain required dietary documentation and records, including diet orders, menus, and food service logs
Coordinate with nursing/care staff regarding resident dietary needs and changes
Participate in resident council feedback, special events, and holiday meal planning

Requirements

Proven experience in assisted living or long-term care settings with strong knowledge of dietary management and patient assessment techniques
Demonstrated supervisory experience leading dietary or healthcare teams in a fast-paced environment
In-depth understanding of health regulation policies related to food safety, nutrition standards, and clinical nutrition practices
Minimum 2 years of experience in an RCFE dietary department (assisted living / residential care setting)
Food Handler Card or ServSafe certification (or ability to obtain prior to start)
Working knowledge of Title 22 dietary requirements and county food safety standards
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and foster a collaborative work environment
Excellent communication skills for coordinating with healthcare providers, residents, families, and staff
Competence in managing budgets, care plans, and compliance documentation effectively
Ability to cook from scratch for a senior population, including modified diets
Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance cooking duties with administrative responsibilities
A genuine team player with a positive attitude, reliability, and strong work ethic
Ability to pass a criminal background check (DOJ/FBI clearance) and health screening/TB test as required for RCFE employment

Preferred:

Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
Prior supervisory or kitchen management experience
Experience with dietary or task-management software platforms
CPR/First Aid certification

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Ability to work in a kitchen environment (heat, moisture, cleaning chemicals)
