Full Job Description

Physical Therapist (PT) – Early Intervention

Employment Type: Part-Time
Population: Children ages 12–36 months
Reports To: Program Supervisor

Join Our Early Intervention Team

We are seeking a compassionate and collaborative Physical Therapist (PT) to provide early intervention services to children ages 12–36 months with developmental delays, disabilities, and other conditions affecting gross motor development and functional mobility.

In this role, you will work closely with children, families, caregivers, and an interdisciplinary team to help young children build the skills they need to move, play, participate, and engage more independently in everyday activities.

Services are provided in accordance with each child's Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) and applicable California Early Start requirements.

What You'll Do

Conduct physical therapy evaluations and developmental assessments for infants and toddlers.
Provide individualized and small-group physical therapy interventions.
Support development of gross motor skills including sitting, crawling, standing, walking, climbing, balance, and transitions.
Address mobility, strength, coordination, motor planning, posture, positioning, and functional movement.
Incorporate therapeutic strategies into play and everyday routines.
Educate and coach parents and caregivers on practical strategies they can use at home and in the community.
Recommend positioning strategies, adaptive equipment, orthotics, and mobility supports when appropriate.
Monitor children's progress and adjust interventions based on developmental and functional needs.
Collaborate with teachers, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, nurses, social workers, developmental specialists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
Participate in IFSP meetings, case conferences, and interdisciplinary team meetings.
Complete evaluations, progress reports, treatment notes, and other required documentation accurately and timely.

Required Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy program.
Current and unrestricted California Physical Therapist license.
Knowledge of pediatric physical therapy and typical and atypical child development.
Ability to assess and provide therapeutic intervention to children with developmental delays and disabilities.
Strong communication, clinical reasoning, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with families and interdisciplinary professionals.
Ability to maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within the required timeframe.
Ability to meet applicable background clearance and health screening requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with infants and toddlers from birth to age three.
Experience in early intervention, pediatrics, education, or developmental disability services.
Knowledge of California Early Start and the IFSP process.
Experience supporting children with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, neurological or genetic conditions, orthopedic conditions, and other developmental delays.
Experience with adaptive equipment, orthotics, positioning, and mobility supports.
Bilingual skills are a plus based on the needs of the families we serve.

Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands-on position working with infants and toddlers. The role requires the ability to work on the floor; transition between sitting, kneeling, standing, and floor positions; bend, reach, squat, and kneel; assist children with positioning and mobility; and lift or carry children and therapeutic equipment as required.
