Lead Legal Strategy for a Growing National Organization
We are seeking an experienced, business-minded, and hands-on General Counsel to serve as the chief legal advisor for our organization. This executive leadership role requires someone who can operate strategically while also being willing to roll up their sleeves and work directly on complex employment, litigation, corporate, and operational legal matters.
As a nationwide provider of security services and facilities maintenance solutions with more than 5,000 employees across multiple jurisdictions, we are looking for a legal leader who can navigate complex employment and corporate legal matters while partnering closely with executive leadership to support organizational growth and mitigate risk.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in California employment law, significant litigation experience, and a strong foundation in corporate law. Experience advising multi-state employers and managing high-volume labor and employment matters is highly preferred.
What You'll Do
As General Counsel, you'll lead the legal function and provide practical, risk-based counsel across employment law, litigation, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and business operations.
Legal Leadership & Strategic Counsel
- Serve as the organization's chief legal advisor and trusted business partner to executive leadership
- Provide practical, risk-based legal guidance on employment, labor, corporate, operational, and regulatory matters
- Advise leadership on legal risks, business strategy, policy development, and organizational initiatives
- Develop and implement legal strategies that support business objectives while minimizing organizational risk
- Operate as both a strategic advisor and hands-on legal leader, directly owning complex matters when needed
- Oversee legal compliance across multiple jurisdictions and business operations
Employment & Labor Law
- Lead legal strategy and oversight for employment-related litigation, including wage and hour claims, class actions, representative actions, and PAGA matters
- Advise Human Resources and Operations leadership on employee relations, workplace investigations, disciplinary actions, accommodations, leaves of absence, and terminations
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, with a strong focus on California employment law
- Draft, review, and negotiate employment agreements, separation agreements, restrictive covenant agreements, and employment-related policies
- Provide guidance on labor relations, workforce management, and compliance issues impacting large hourly workforces
Litigation Management
- Manage litigation matters impacting the organization
- Develop litigation strategy and oversee case management from inception through resolution
- Direct and manage outside counsel, including performance, budgets, and legal spend
- Evaluate legal risks and recommend appropriate resolutions, settlements, and defense strategies
- Support responses to government agency investigations, audits, administrative claims, and legal proceedings
Corporate & Commercial Matters
- Advise on corporate governance, organizational structure, and business transactions
- Review, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements, vendor contracts, client agreements, and related business documents
- Support mergers, acquisitions, integrations, and strategic initiatives as needed
- Assist leadership in evaluating legal implications of new business opportunities and operational decisions
- Ensure compliance with applicable licensing, regulatory, and contractual obligations
Team Leadership
- Lead, manage, and mentor the organization's legal support team, including paralegals and other legal personnel
- Establish legal department priorities, processes, and best practices
- Drive efficiencies through proactive risk management and legal operations improvements
- Foster strong cross-functional partnerships with HR, Operations, Finance, Compliance, and executive leadership
What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active membership and good standing with the California State Bar
- Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible legal experience
- Significant experience in employment and labor law
- Strong litigation management experience, including wage and hour matters
- Experience advising executive leadership and business stakeholders
- Corporate law knowledge and experience supporting business operations
- Exceptional legal research, analysis, negotiation, and communication skills
- Willingness and ability to work onsite Monday-Friday
Preferred Qualifications
- 7-10+ years of legal experience
- Prior in-house counsel or General Counsel experience
- Prior litigation experience
- Deep knowledge of California employment law and wage and hour compliance
- Experience supporting compliance and mitigating risk in multiple states and jurisdictions
- Experience managing wage and hour class actions and PAGA litigation
- Corporate law, commercial transactions, and governance experience
- Experience supporting large hourly workforces within security, staffing, facilities services, logistics, hospitality, or other labor-intensive industries
- Experience managing outside counsel and legal department personnel

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
This position is primarily performed in a professional office environment and requires the ability to:
- Remain in a stationary position for extended periods while working at a computer workstation
- Frequently operate a computer, telephone, and standard office equipment
- Review and analyze contracts, legal documents, reports, and correspondence
- Communicate effectively with executives, employees, outside counsel, clients, and regulatory agencies
- Participate in meetings, presentations, and negotiations both in person and virtually
