Field Surveyor

Company Overview

Our client is a well-established land surveying, planning, and civil engineering firm serving Northern California. For more than three decades, they have provided professional surveying and engineering services for residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, and land development projects. Their team utilizes modern surveying technology and industry best practices to deliver accurate, timely, and high-quality results for developers, architects, engineers, municipalities, contractors, and private property owners.

Position Summary

The Field Surveyor is responsible for performing field surveys and collecting accurate measurements and data to support a variety of land development, construction, and boundary surveying projects. This position works primarily in the field, operating surveying equipment, documenting site conditions, and collaborating closely with licensed surveyors, CAD technicians, and project managers to ensure the accuracy and quality of survey deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

Perform boundary, topographic, ALTA, construction, and as-built surveys.
Operate surveying equipment including GPS, robotic total stations, digital levels, and data collectors.
Collect accurate field measurements, elevations, and site information for survey projects.
Record detailed field notes and ensure all collected data is complete and accurate.
Set property corners, construction stakes, and survey control points.
Interpret construction plans, legal descriptions, plats, and survey documents.
Work closely with office staff and CAD technicians to provide field data for mapping and drafting.
Verify field measurements and identify discrepancies before submitting project data.
Maintain surveying equipment and ensure it is calibrated and functioning properly.
Follow company safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and project team members while on-site.
Perform other surveying-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Previous experience as a Field Surveyor, Survey Technician, Instrument Person, or similar surveying role.
Proficiency operating GPS, total stations, data collectors, and other land surveying equipment.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans, subdivision maps, legal descriptions, and engineering drawings.
Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of land surveying principles, practices, and field procedures.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate survey data.
Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record preferred.

Pay: $25.76 - $35.00 per hour
